Hi All Looking for a bit of clarification.. I have a private plate on my car, I want to transfer this plate onto my new car (when I buy it) and then put the original plates back onto my old car so it can be sold to it's new owners. Has anyone done this recently? I find the blurb on the DVLA website a bit confusing, especially the part about putting the original plates back onto a vehicle. Thanks Edit: I can't spell!

Hello all after some advice/opinions of a few hatchbacks if anyone has had any experience having owned/driven one of the following... VW Polo (2010-onwards) Alfa Romeo Mito Citroen DS3 (one of the cheaper models - probably DSign or DStyle) I currently have a much-loved Corsa, but he's coming to the end of his days. As much as I love my Corsa I don't want another, and having driven the new models i'm not enamoured with them. I'm hoping to have a new(er) car by Sept/Oct time, and will be buying second hand. Any thoughts/advice/suggestions are most welcome

Hi all, As its now coming into the summer I'm starting to dig out the cycling gear! Started it last year and was only doing local cycle paths, but now I want to venture out. I've been looking at two cycle carriers on for the car (Seat Leon FR 2007), but not sure what one would be better suited. It will be a maximum of two bikes on the carrier. Can you have a look at the links below and tell me your views? Bootlid carrier http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130513343642?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649 Towball carrier http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360592468561?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649 Thanks in advance, Ross

OK, being of a certain age I have finally got my way and booked a holiday on a canal boat. I have always been drawn to the water and whilst never having felt the desire to captain Titanic MK2 I felt confident that I could muster up and learn the ropes with a canal boat with a top legal speed of 4mph. At least before I booked the holiday I felt confident, but this seems more complicated than I envisaged. You travel in the middle of the canal and pass other boats on the the right hand side? Also, there are the locks which scare me a bit. I am sure that the tuition before I get let loose we will get will help a bit, but scissor locks? staircase locks? Are there any other …

Have we any friendly, helpful mechanics on here?! I've just had a dpf failure on my accord, been sorted in the garage (forced regen and fuel additive), got it back today and I've lost hot air! Not sure if its linked, but it seems an odd coincidence. I'll be back onto the garage on Monday, just wondered if the heat from the regen could have damaged the heat exchanger? And if the advice I got about the dpf is good.... Ta.

Hi All, Long winded story but here goes, About 4 weeks ago I brought a new car (62 plate) filled out the V5 form and all sent off. Today get a urgent phone call of the garage that sold it me (well known garage, 100 or so showrooms) saying they have fitted the wrong reg to my car, its off by the last digit. So ok, had a go at them saying technically ive not been insured for the past 4 weeks etc etc, so now, I have the correct reg on my car. Ok, they say the car's V5 log book is on its way to them and they will fill it out and send off to the DVLA. Meanwhile ive rang the DVLA saying I no longer own the old plate and I don't want any come back to it (I don't have the V5 …

Hey guys, I've decided to have another go at my test, it'd just make my life so much easier. I took it (failed, evidently) about a year and a half ago just before I came to uni and haven't driven since. Any advice on choosing an instructor? Should I go for a large company i.e. RED etc. or a smaller/self-employed instructor. I live in the Stoke on Trent area if it helps at all. Cheers,

My head hurts. So I'm shortly going to be doing Direct Access () and I've been typing in some random numbers into comparethemoneysupermeerkat.com to get an idea for the cost to insure myself on various bits of kit. Assuming it's not a horrible ride, I'm looking at a new Honda NC700X, described as a perfect big bike for a new bike rider which does (repeated in real world testing I might add) ~75mpg. All in all my commute to work will wind up costing about £4 a day including fuel and parking. Lovely job. Now onto the insurance. Unhelpfully not even Honda's own pet insurance broker have got it on their list of bikes which they insure. Which seems a bit nuts as I've…

G'day; I wager there's a few people on here that have been in the business of buying a new car at some point. I don't mean new to them, I mean off the factory floor. I'm considering both options at the moment, but I keep being told that "buying a new car is a waste of money" and "you'll get a much better deal for used." To help me decide, would you share your opinions/experiences? Ta, Adam

Afternoon all! I’m after a bit of travel advice… My girlfriend and I are planning on booking 4 nights in New York towards the end of the year, and at the moment it’s looking likely to be around November as it’s the cheapest! Just wondering how many people have been to the Big Apple (or live there!!) and can say what days are the best to visit on? I’m not sure which will be the best for tourists, Monday-Friday or Thursday-Monday? I don’t want to book Thurs-Mon and then find out that it’s absolutely heaving everywhere at weekends and we would have been better off booking during the week! Also whilst I’m on the subject, which is typically the best airport to use? I can fi…

I'm looking at buying a Land Rover 90/Defender at the moment ("oh god why?" I hear you scream) and I'm in need of a bit of help really. I'm not sure if I should go for a 300TDi or a TD 5 model. I'm leaning towards a newer TD 5 because of the potential to push it towards (and over) 200bhp with the right mods and a bit of cash, but the 300TDi is far more reliable aparantly and can be fixed with a big hammer and a wrench. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of either engines and their reliability as well as a few buying tips? For example, when's the best time to buy? I'm guessing probably not winter. I know what I'm looking for body and chassis wise in terms of r…

I haven't driven since I passed my test in 2007. I am trying to try to start again but I seem to prefer taking public transport. For example even though it takes longer to go and do the weekly shopping on the bus I just feel more tired driving! Am I wierd lol? Also I get into more trouble driving, people tailgating and cutting me up. The bus seems do much easer even though there is a small risk if stabbing/mugging. Anyone else feel like thus when they started driving?

I have been parking my car in an office car park for the last 4 months, I had an evolope tucked under my wipers informing me I must pay £130 immediately or face more fines/convictions. I'm quite worried as I'm sure you can imagine, It was issued by a "company" called Newlyn Ltd The letter I recieved looked unofficial, like it was designed on Microsoft Paint. Do I pay this or just ignore it? If I ignore it do I declare it in vetting? I'm so confused, I've not parked there since just in case!

Hello all! Being more of computer guy than a mechanic, I need to know if a power steering pump from a e36 316 will work in a e36 320? Thank you!
