NCALT Annoyance
by Weeblex- 2 replies

It would appear a lot of the content on NCALT is flash based and for some reason on my PCs the text that comes up seems to be about 50 pixels to high so it hides under the banner at the top of the window. I've been working round this but I've just come across courses that have a important content up there and I can't read it. Has anyone else experienced this and if so have you found a solutions? So far I've tested this on IE9, IE11, Chrome and Firefox and with both an older version and current version of Adobe Flash. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Hi all, I've been given the packages that I need to complete for NCALT before January. However, when I launch the package it gets stuck on loading at won't progress. I've gone through and disabled add-ons one by one to see if they were the problem but it hasn't helped. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Laptop won't boot up
by Bubba1546080759- 6 replies

I've taken delivery of a new budget laptop made by Asus. Everything was going well until I tried to do the 95 windows updates! I was in the process of updating and it failed, now it's stuck at "failure configuring windows update reverting changes" it's been like this for the passed 3 hours, I've tried rebooting in safe mode, but I don't get the option when pressing F8, it just goes straight back to that same message. Lots of advice online about how to do the updates, but no good for me as I can't get the blasted thing to boot up! I've requested a replacement from Amazon, but really would like to try and get it running. I'm really having a bad week, my NAS packed up…

Help stop Apache service
by 5460- 12 replies

I'm running Debian Wheezy running a webstream, and installed apache and set up a little web server on my Pi. So, all's good. Although, too good.... Whenever the pi reboots, the apache service restarts automatically! I can manually type in: sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 stop but a reboot restarts. What would the command be to permanently stop this service running? Oh I was suggested another command, but it fails: pi@ ~ $ update-rc.d apache2 disable update-rc.d: using dependency based boot sequencing update-rc.d: error: Permission denied

Best approach to CD ripping
by prolixia- 4 replies
- 1.3k views
At the moment my digital music collection is a mess, and I've decided to spend a few evenings watching films and re-ripping all my CDs to start afresh. I don't plan to repeat this exercise again so I want to make sure I don't have any regrets as to how I do the job now. My plan is to store a master copy of my collection in the loss-less FLAC format and make sure that all the tags, artwork, etc. are correct before transcoding a copy of the library as 320 KBps MP3s. I plan to use the MP3s day-to-day and keep the FLAC files in case my requirements change in the future and I want to rebuild my library in a different format. I'm aware how large the FLAC library will be. …

Browsers crashing PC
by Administrative Account- 9 replies

Hi all, One for the techies! Basically my computer (PC running Windows 7) crashes randomly when I'm printing out packing slips via Google Chrome. I've tried Firefox and Explorer but the same thing happens. When the browser crashes the only way to rectify it is a hard reboot of the PC by pressing on holding the power button. I can't ctrl alt delete to stop the browser as a running process, close the browser or do anything else at all on the PC. I've scanned for malware via Malwarebytes, checked the RAM memory via windows memory checker and also cleared the TCP/IP stack via WINSOCK. The PC doesn't seem to crash when I'm doing anything else other than trying to print (i…

Service Host Local System using too much CPU power
by SCGramzon +- 13 replies

Hi, I've recently noticed that this process is using so much cpu power, I don't think this is normal. I've run kasperskys full scan but it hasn't found anything. I was wondering if someone can help me determine what the problem is? I've added an attachment screenshot of my task manager. Edit: Restarting hasn't fixed it, virus scan hasn't fixed it, sfc /scannow hasn't found anything. I don't understand what this is. It doesn't seem normal. A friend with a similar setup has checked and this service doesn't use anywhere near the same amount of processing power as mine. Thanks Attached Thumbnails

Removing friend checker
by Shikari +- 5 replies
- 3.6k views
Hey everyone, I'm not entirely sure how but I downloaded an add-on or software that contained Friend checker, or something which uses open app media. It's essentially trying to advertise stuff to me, but I have an ad blocker so I get blank spaces. I've tried deleting everything I can think of that I installed over the past few days but still can't get rid of it. I've also started getting pop-up screen, and that thing where key words are highlighted and running your mouse over it opens up offers. It's all rather frustrating. I use Firefox and have never had this issue before. Any help please, Google hasn't been useful.

Network Issues
by Mayday- 10 replies

Heya guys, i'm drawing a blank here. Having a couple of issues with my Network card. I've been having issues with it for a while now, and it's completely random when the issue occurs. The current issue is that now it's automatically turned off when the laptop starts and randomly turning it off while it's on. I've checked that the it's not on power saving mode etc and i've even tried rolling back the driver software, however no success. The local adapter will randomly have a hissy fit and i'll lose connection. In the task bar i'll have the signal symbol with a yellow triangle and exclaimation mark inside of it. A restart of the Network adapter will resolve the issue …

Looking for any advice at all on what the problem could be, been at it most of the day and pulling my hair out. I have a MacBook but use the PC for my Lightroom editing. Help! :new_sorry: PC turns on, comes up with registry page asking which mode to start in. I've started in safe mode, run a scan and gone back to usual mode after switching off. In usual mode, it comes up with user accounts, try to log into a user account, nothing. If I'm lucky enough to get into one, nothing works - no internet, no programmes, nothing, programmes will begin to start then switch to 'Not responding'. I actually detest Windows but the PC is not yet 2 years old. Virus scan in safe mode d…
