Perhaps an "Ask the trades" forum would be a good idea? Bearing in mind that Specials have day jobs and there is probably a wealth of experience available so if anybody had a question about something they could ask? IT, Plumbing, Accountancy, Tax etc etc...

Hello strangers! :D I am fed up with fixing taps at home, so I was wondering if theres anyone here that would be able to help fix our kitchen tap (Paid of course!) and possibly give me a quote to knock down a wall to extend/rebuild our kitchen from here? I'm not sure I'm even allowed to post such posts on PS.com? If not no hard feelings please delete! (Desperate times! And sick of rip off plumbers!) Thanks

Plumbing Question! Replacing immersion heaters with instantaneous water heater
by Administrative Account- 3 replies

In my flat I have only got electricity (no gas). I'm on an economy 7 electricity tariff (I have storage heaters).... My hot water comes from a cylinder, fed from a tank. The cylinder is fitted with 2 immersion heaters - ones at the top and is supposed to be the top-up and one at the bottom is the economy 7 one. The bottom one is knackered at the moment so at the moment I'm just running on the top one which is no doubt going to be cripplingly expensive when the bill comes through... Which made me think... If I were to get rid of the cylinder totally and replace it with an instantaneous water heater would that work? something like this: http://www.aquahot.co.uk/redring-…

Garden Office questions

Hi all, I'm currently planning a cockpit simulator build. This consists of a replica A320 cockpit and a 225 degree wrap-around screen with a 2.35m radius. This will use 3 projectors to display the simulator visuals. I hope to get a garden office built as I have no room in the house! My concern is having a lot of very expensive electronics in it. Are they well insulated and secure? This one looks promising: Garden Room - 6m x 5m Inspiration Green Retreats has anyone had trouble mounting projector to the ceiling? Or maybe i will have to rent a workshop on an industrial estate?

i have a small project coming up. Briefly I am creating a home cockpit for my flight simming hobby. I plan to get some DIY blueprints for this: Is there anyone out there who could build this from scratch? They would need to use high grade cabinet quality hardwood laminate and hardwood composite material (Not cheap MDF or particle board), plus 5mm (.125″) aircraft grade aluminum. it is roughly 7ft x 5ft.

Just a quick question regarding mortgages, I've tried looking online and I think I understand it right. If I buy a house valued at £75,000 and I want to borrow for £50,000. As there is £25,000 equity does this mean I won't have to pay a deposit?

I was reading an article about the rise in "lock snapping burglaries". How could I make my home more secure? Would putting armored doors and armored windows work?

Any electricians?

Have an odd electrical issue at home and wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction.. SOME of my downstairs lights have stopped working, all seems fine in the CU - nothing's tripped. When I take one of the (non-working light) switches off the wall and test the voltage, it does register something but is usually less than 20V.. This seems odd, I'd have imagined it would either work or not work, not be weirdly under-voltaged.. Not sure where to begin trying to diagnose what's going on.. Any pointers?

somewhere to live needed, Chelmsford?

hi, just stumbled on this site and noticed what a helpful bunch you all are! Here's my problem, I'm looking like starting at Essex police college at the start of June, and I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations regarding accommodation? It seems quite expensive renting alone, and yet house sharing can be a minefield! Especially with a senior officer coming to do a home visit! I'm looking to move down at the start of may from a fair distance away, any help greatly appreciated!

There was a utensil that was advertised quite regularly in the run up to Christmas, like a multi-function food shredder for salads etc. Does anybody remember the brand and/or have a link to it anywhere? Thank you

by Burnie- 11 replies
- 1.6k views
I'm after some advice. I move house tomorrow so I'm looking to get a Phone and Broadband provider This is the list of available providers in my area. The house is already rigged up with both cable and telephone lines so thats not an issue. What I am after is opinions on the providers re: reliability of provision, value for money, customer service, truthfullness (e.g. Bandwidth stated vs bandwidth received) etc. if anyone is able to suggest any based on experience.
