Donating blood AND Bone Marrow 1 2
by Funky Drummer- 22 replies

Donating Blood Many people on this forum are likely to be registered blood donors. If so, good on you! Kepp donating regularly, PLEASE! Blood stocks in the UK are at an ALL TIME LOW and donors are vital in hundreds of life-saving operations every day. For example... 3 teaspoons of blood can save a premature baby's life A road traffic accident can require around 40 blood donations A leukaemia patient may require 100 transfusions during the course of their treatment Scottish hospitals alone need 1,000 units of blood each day A very small majority of people actually give blood and when you bear in mind the above figures it is clear to see how important YO…

Contacts And Daily Life.
by SCKev- 9 replies

I've had to wear glasses all my life well more so when I was younger I had to wear patches have a squint operation and as I got older only had to wear them for reading, TV, computers and when concentrating for a long time. Lately I’ve noticed that I need them a bit more at work but and when driving sometimes,, especially more so at night with all the lights. I took the plunge and decided to wear daily contacts as I thought it would be better for when I am doing police work , I started off with (not sure of the name) didn’t get on with them at all they were annoying I could feel they were there so I’ve now moved onto 1-Day Acuvue Moist. But I still feel like my eyes ar…

As the topic says can anyone give me a bit more of an insight to the whole process and what it's like? i have looked at the ppinned post but it is dated 2004, I've also looked at videos and on the website but would just like a view of what it's like from people that give it. I'm thinking about donating blood and the whole bone marrow talk popped up along with it. http://www.blood.co.uk/giving-blood/why-give-blood/ (If mods feel this is the same as the pinned topic please delete) Do you give either? What is it like? Is there any complications with giving? Thanks Kev

Hi all, I was wondering where I could go for more advanced FA training i.e. trauma, such as sucking chest wounds or applying tourniquets, or serious RTC injuries etc. essentially more than FA at work. This isn't Police related as such, although it may come in useful, I'm just interested in helping people, and although I'm sure I could learn off of youtube, I'd rather have a formal accreditation to cover my back. Cheers, Shikari

What weight should I aim for?
by Shikari +- 4 replies

Hi all, I feel slightly awkward asking this question because frankly it's a bit daft but: Can some one tell me a target weight that I should be working towards benching and curling (and other exercises if you want to add them) for Police work? It's a bit silly asking this, but I like having a goal to work towards rather than aimlessly adding more weight. I'm looking for something that means I'll be average/above average strength for most policing situations.# Thanks,

Pain from duty belt
by I99- 7 replies
Does anybody else suffer from pain when they put on their duty-belt? Mine is stripped of everything that isn't essential and in this state I'd estimate it weighs about 1.5kg. I don't use belt-keepers nor do I have it ridiculously tight; it sits smartly over my trouser belt. Now I've tried a tac-vest and that does help. However on the occasions where you have to wear a duty-belt how do you minimise the pain that it causes? Mine doesn't seem to start hurting until a couple of hours of wearing it and movement doesn't affect it (walking, standing static, running). The pain isn't agonising but it is enough to give you a dull ache in the lower back and the occasional twinge. …

Running and stitches
by Scot- 10 replies
- 1.4k views
So I have been running 4, maybe 5 times a week mostly 5K's or smaller, faster runs. I've never had stitches before but for some reason recently it's been worse than ever. Always at the same distance into a run, about 2K. It's unbearable and I normally have to stop. I don't eat and hour before running and have tried to alter my breathing but it still happens! Anyone got some hints and tips to prevent/get rid of, stitches?

Sleep Talking 1 2
by ParochialYokal- 16 replies
- 2.4k views
I've just been away with my friend and he has come back a nervous wreck after sharing a room with me. Apparently, I sleep talk a lot and use very bad language. Words I would never use during my waking hours. Quiet frankly, I don't remember so I have never really cared. I know that I sleep talk, but I didn't think it was an issue. I am mortified that my friend has spent two weeks without any sleep. I recorded myself last night and I did make some bizarre comments. I'm to embarrassed to go into too much detail in case people think I'm a nutcase, but I don't know anyone else who has this problem. Has anyone else had experience of it?

My leg
by UKPolice- 7 replies
- 1.3k views
Over the past few months my right leg has become more and more noticeable to me, both by physical look and pain that I am experiencing. My right leg is simply bent! It's really strange and a very uncomfortable feeling. If I stand, my left foot faces forward but my right foot faces to the right - natural stance. If I then force my right foot to be straight ie the same as my left foot, my whole entire leg is completely out of shape! I really don't know how else to explain it! All I can say is that when I lay down, it seems to veer off to the right from the knee down but it doesn't stop there. My hip has been hurting too so I've been wondering if it's starting from the…

Ear infection - Your experience?
by Foxtrot-Alpha- 5 replies
- 1.2k views
Hello, I wouldn't consider that I've ever had a problem with my ears, other than a bit of tinnitus over the years from working in loud environments, however I've recently had an ear infection which I am hoping is now coming to the end as the severe pain I was experiencing seems to have stopped almost completely. I have visited my GP, finished a course of antibiotics etc, however I am suffering some hearing loss in my ear and it seems to be getting worse before it gets better! It's probably been around 2 weeks total, and the ear infection seems to have come out of no where.. however anyone who has experienced an ear infection, how long did you take to recover, and did…

Protein Shakers 1 2
by SW_matt- 19 replies

I unfortunately neglected to clean out one of my shakers after use which was then unfortunately left for 3 weeks whilst I was away. When I the opened on my return it smelt as though the wrath of hells foulest minion had been unleashed, I swear to god it was like a faceful of CS. Anyway, Long story short, anyone know how to get rid of the smell? I want to avoid binning the thing. I've tried filling it with boiling water to minimal effect. Cheers, Matt

Fat Loss Supplements
by FutureBright- 12 replies

Bit of advice/feedback really... I have been going to the gym and exercising regularly for 10 months now. After 2 months I really stepped up and sorted my diet out too, and I ended up losing 12 KGS. However, the past two months, my weight has stayed the same, I don't seem to be losing any fat no matter how hard I push. My workouts are around 4-5K running, 1.5k rowing and 4k (sprints) on the bikes, added on to high intensity interval training and some general weights on biceps, triceps, chest and legs. Also a swim usually. I tend to go 4 days a week. So a good mix, and not just piling on weight in the form of muscle. I have done a bit of research and spoken to a few …
