Hi all, Any regular runners have any ideas on how to get rid of shin splints ? I have passed fitness test already, but need to maintain - after about 4/5 times of running on road (post fitness test) I developed shin splints. Have tried every gadget under the sun - foam roller (to massage leg) , Ice-pack, shin splint/calf supports, - also bought a new pair of proper running shoes - a small fortune, and have those footbalance shock absorber insoles too. ( have not been able to use running shoes yet to date!) Its been about a month now, that i have not done any running - a bit frustrating as I did start to enjoy running. - although shins are feeling marginally bett…

Evening all, I recently applied to a Scottish Police Force, I've sat and passed my SET tests and fitness, passing 2nd time around but only just (9.4, pass is 9.2). I've decided that that not good enough and I'm determined to improve my C/V fitness levels. I don't want to get to the Police college and let us English folk down by being the most unfit there. I've started a hefty regime of interval training, including weighted sled pushes and pulls over 15-20mtrs and endurance runs of around 3-4km. I've reduced my strength and "size" training to nothing which I'm not keen on but it must be done :D My main problem is that when running, I can feel my left knee twisting and e…

Does anyone suffer it? More specifically has anyone tried hypnotherapy as a result? IBS has been ruling my life for nearly 3 years now, both professionally and personally, and it's holding me back in many areas of my work. I have now been advised to try hypnotherapy as all medication and CBT routes have failed. I just wonder whether or not any other members on here suffer and would share their experiences..? Truth is it's a massively embarrassing thing to talk about and the circumstances bring a feeling of shame and embarrassment most of the time. It has over the last 3 years radically changed the sort of person I am and I'm at my end the end of my tether in trying to f…

Hi, thought I would try here before signing up to some fitness forum to ask one question... Does anyone know why it is not recommended to weigh yourself shortly after exercise? A personal trainer at my gym told me not to last week but when I asked why, she didn't know. Seems to be a bit of a "I know that you shouldn't, but I don't really know why you shouldn't". I weigh myself at the same point every day I go to the gym. After I have been up in the gym and before get into the pool. That way, I am always wearing the same clothing. Is that really a bad thing?! Thanks in advance!

Hi, I have been searching for information with regard to Pava and contact lenses. I wear daily disposable lenses. I have been wondering, when/if I'm sprayed, whether I should immediately remove the lenses or leave them in until the effects wear off? I'm thinking if i leave them in it could prolong the pain. But taking them out could be double pain! Not sure if anyone has had an experience of this? What would you do ?

Something that the team take the mick out of.... I shake. Not all the time, not when nervous, not when cold.....just when I'm dealing with something where I think i might have a bit of adrenaline going through me: not even in incidents when I might be expected to have a massive dose of the stuff - Whenever I'd had to properly fight or use force or come to the aid of people I've been completely steady. Just in incidents when I'm slightly "on edge" through adrenaline my hands often shake. It annoys me - because I'm not in the least scared, I know exactly what I'm doing, I know exactly what I'm saying - It's just my hands shake, and people see it as fear or whatever. any i…

Hiya! I'd class myself as generally fit and healthy, I cycle lots, go hill climbing and other various activities. Now at the weekend I had my first chase situation and I got a bit of a fright. Running in body armour is not easy and definitely slows you down, but I wasn't expecting to be that slow compared to my usual running speed. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for training on how to prevent being outrun because you're weighed down a bit more than usual? Would pavement running with a heavy backpack make any difference? It's the only idea that I can come up with! Many thanks. SWx

As the title suggests I've just had my acl reconstructed following a sports injury. Just wondering if any other member has had a similar injury and how long they were unable to go out on duty for. Cheers.

So I hyper-extended my elbow last night.. got caught in an arm bar, the guy didn't feel me tap.. I should have thought to tap the mat but didn't think quick enough or couldn't.. It happened too fast.. Not sure how long I'll have to take off fitness because of it.. Any ideas to help with the healing process? I had a hot bath when I got in but then found out it's better to be icing it... Cheers for the help! Mike

Have any of you ever practised it? Mainly martial arts followers? For those of you no knowing what Im talking about conditioning a part of your body is making it more " hard " or durable, able to take impact etc.. For the hand or fist one it is repeatedly over months and years punching hard objects with control not enough to injure but to cause tiny breaks ( When I mean tiny I mean tiny, microscopic , once healed they strengthen, same principle as gaining muscle ) in the bones that make your knuckles go red, and after years of doing this you get natural knuckle dusters. I have been doing it for about 6 months and I have seen a difference. I use a sangbag - My martial ar…
