As the title suggests I've just had my acl reconstructed following a sports injury. Just wondering if any other member has had a similar injury and how long they were unable to go out on duty for.

Cheers.

I havent, but a colleague was out of action for 5-6 months. She could walk on it unaided after about 2 months though.

Ripped both of mine in both knees, plus shattered my knee cap. I was out of action for 6-8 months while I was studying. Sorry to hear about your injury, just do the physio and you'll be back to normal on no time.

I've torn my ACL, but didn't have the surgery to reconstruct it.

Get a half decent physio, do their exercises to the letter, spend a bit of time in the gym and you should be fine.

To give you a bit of comfort, many of the England rugby team have torn their ACL at one point and are still playing.

I tore my acl and broke cartilage in my right knee in January. I had the cartilage removed but I did not have the acl reconstructed in march, I still managed to do my fitness test just before my surgery. I was told recovery time for acl would be 6 months, so I put it off as I was offered training for specials. I still haven't had my acl reconstructed but it does ache from time to time on duty so I keep it strapped up.

if you feel you need to get it done, get it done but in my case I can't afford the time off!

good luck x
