Hi all, off the bat, I’m not a police officer, so feel a bit of a fraud being on here. That being said, I have some very specific questions and this forum seems like the best place to get an answer. There has recently been a huge rise In the number of American style ‘audit’ videos on YouTube, carried out in the uk, for those that don’t know what these are, it is supposed to be an honest attempt to raise awareness of good and bad police practices, however as they can be carried out by anybody, they often end up being a slagging match between the two parties, showing police officers in a bad light, and wasting their precious time. There are very few that accomplish what the…

Sample sentences for talking to the police

Hi Everyone. I'm going on a foreign trip with other people, and will be interpreting for them as I have conversational level ability in the local language. One thing I want to improve my vocabulary for is discussions with police, particularly reporting any crimes and following through with that. I've tried to make a list of sentences from the top of my (random member of the public) head. I'll list these here to avoid duplication. Additional sentences would be gratefully accepted. Can I point out that while a list of such sentences looks a bit Note that everyone apart from me on the trip is female. Hence, the sample sentences are rather gendered…

After two years of preparation and finally I submitted my application on early November 2021, it was very quick process I got the invitation for fitness and PSET right after beginning of December and passed both , a week later passed assessment centre and final interview, I'd consider myself very lucky that I got interviewed by senior rank (superintendent). the whole recruitment process was very positive and I enjoyed very much , just one step closer to my dream. Wouldn't be awesome if I can successfully pass final the medical test on my birthday (1st of February) ? it turns out to be the worst birthday I have every had. I failed the medical assessment due to left ear he…

"Never apologize to the public"
by Equin0x- 3 replies

There's been a lot of talk about the policing at the coronation which I won't go into again, but in the discussion I saw someone post on another board that they work in the police and they are told in training to never apologize. For example if there's a stop search where nothing is found, they are warned they must not say sorry for it. I'm interested in why that is. Do police officers think that saying sorry is an admission that they did something wrong? In which case I could see why you would never apologize for a negative stop search as long as the procedure has been done by the book. You wouldn't see what there is to apologize for. But in civilian life apologies are o…

136 MHA - sectioning in hospitals
by Jamie1983- 2 followers

Our MH liaison teams finally seem to be backing us and advising us to push back against hospital requests to section their patients. R vs SESSAY is quoted as the legal precedent not to do so. The typical request comes when a person with MH is shouting and having to be restrained, we are called and expected to take over and 136 them instead of the hospital using S2 MHA. Has anyone had any experience with this? How unruly have you allowed a patient to become before you feel the need to step in? My understanding id that the coroners in the north easy have backed the police in matters where the patient has come to harm subsequently.

Why Police refuses to consider unlawful evictions as criminal matters and consider them only as civil matters 1 2 3

I heard that the Police has a reputation of refusing to consider unlawful evictions as criminal matters and consider them only as civil matters even though Section 1 Protection from Eviction Act 1977 is very clear and says that it is a criminal offence to harass a tenant to force him to give up the occupation of the premises. In particular Section 1(4) says that the offender is punishable on summary conviction or on conviction on indictment. And, it is what is happening to me because I have been unlawfully evicted by my landlord who has forced me to live my accommodation by threatening to cut my electricity, by threatening me of physical violence, by finally cutting…

From what I have read on the subject, which admittedly is not a huge amount, American and European forces seem to have a much more authoritarian approach to policing. "Do as I say because I said so" basically. Do you ever see UK forces moving more towards this model and what effects, good and bad, would it have on policing?

Met police firearms
by 1TILL5- 6 replies

Without going into too much detail about ongoing Criminal investigations I remember reading some time ago many Met officers were threatening to hand their firearms ticket in due to certain events. If this still something being seriously considered? I do really think the Police need to push hard for better treatment whether it be stikes or soft quitting. Whilst the met have no handled themselves in glory is seems them and other forces never even get a fair hearing when it comes to their treatment. I used taser multiple occasions and the scrutiny on one particular job was so incredibly ridiculous I felt about handing my ticket it.

Complaints against officers
by Equin0x- 2 followers

Of the complaints you've seen made against officers for things like stop and search, use of force, and arrests, how many are justified or at least partly justified (maybe the officer is in the right but you can see why the complaint was made) compared to completely unjustified complaints with no grounds whatsoever? What happens to an officer if they carry out an unreasonable search, complaint is made, and the complaint is upheld/the person reviewing the BWV agrees the grounds for that search were not there. I'm assuming it can depend on a few things, such as if it's the first such incident for that officer, was it blatantly unreasonable or just pushing the boundaries…

When a person is detained under section 23 MDA, can you go through their phone and read their text messages, if you believe its a 'burner' phone for drug dealing, prior to any arrest? Many thanks J

DEC/SUNY/Park police exam 2022

I can only answer from what I remember as things could be different. I do not see them changing the shifts to 12s. They have been trying to get manning up since well before I was there and that's over 11+ years. There are other officers on your shift but it varies park to park. You don't usually ride with anyone.

Harassment Warning - Advice needed

Hi, Perhaps close to a year ago now I received a phone call from the police to say that a complaint has been made against me and that I should stop contacting x person, which I have abided by and not done. Straight afterwards I deleted the number and never spoke to the person again The other day I received a call from a number which I didn't recognise, I called it back, they answered and I just said 'I just received a call from this number' they said 'It must have been a mistake' and that was that, I had a feeling that it might be the person who I mentioned based on their voice but thought nothing of it, this evening I received a further phone call but I didn't …

Pension Trap
by Reasonable Man +- 2 followers

This may effect some serving officers on the forum and you may wish to enquire further - Federation? I heard today that some officers will fall into a pension ‘trap’ in that they cannot get their full pension. Forgive me if this is not exactly correct but it was explained to me that officers reaching 30 years service before age 55 who expect to go at 30 will not get full pensions if they are in both the 87 final salary and the CARE schemes. Reason being - go at < 55 and 30 years service means a maximum Final Salary and commutation on that scheme BUT the CARE pension will be actuarially reduced, because they are under 55 when they take it. To get maximum CAR…

CONNECT - crime recording system and case papers 1 2 3

The MET have just begun using a new system called CONNECT for case papers, soon to use it for crime reporting also. Has anyone else in another force used it? Any issues, usability etc. We've already had massive problems with cases disappearing or being sent to the CPS blank when the officers have spent hours working on them. Someone whispered a few forces have used it and got rid of it due to usability issues.
