Acting Off Duty
by Javissdaviss *- 8 replies

Good Afternoon Ladies and Gents, Recently saw a topic on acting off duty, it got me wondering... When an officer acts off duty, how do you call for help from your colleagues if needed? Is the fastest route still 999? Does this impact your decision to step in?

Fitness test

Hi all, I am due to sit the police Scotland fitness test soon and was wondering if I could get any hints/tips from anyone as to what to expect on the day? I’m incredibly nervous as I’ve been waiting for an intake for a while. It is either the 1.5 mile (most likely) or the bleep test dependant on the weather as there has been some snow and ice. Any tips would be greatly appreciated

Burglary questions
by ChristopherM- 7 replies

Was reading this article https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9148473/Householder-65-fighting-life-stabbed-intruder.html The village i in the middle of nowhere and very far from any urban area. So the suspect would have had to drive quite far, plus being in a small village, a new car would stand out. And it was snowing so the roads would be hard to drive on. Why would someone drive for hours and pick some one random house, it doesn't make sense, unless the victim was targeted or they where going to rob the whole village? Another news story https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9148539/Burglary-gangs-disguise-workwear-launch-terrifying-break-ins.html …

The positive parts of UK Policing
by Wilts20 +- 4 replies

As the other thread is focused primarily on the tough parts of 21C policing and the need to keep it light at this time more than ever... ... what are (still) the good parts?! The service aspect, kit, laughs?

Looking at the recent news stories on here, as well as public order events over the summer,stop-search, racism stories, officers being arrested for theft or indecent acts, etc, etc, plus lack of numbers and generally tough conditions, is there anything positive left in UK policing? Is it something that people still aspire to be a part of, or admire? It's never been pretty and rosy, but these last couple of years it seems to be really rare to find anything positive about policing, in journalism, in younger or older people, or even with MPs and leaders of businesses etc. Any thoughts from people inside or outside the service?

Probationary period
by ice007 *- 6 replies

Hi everyone, I am about to start the degree holders programme in February. I am just wondering how common it is not to pass the probationary period? I am having last minute nurves about taking a 50% pay cut which I am happy to accept but clearly don't want to end up with the risk of no job. Got to hand my notice in next week if I am going to do this.

Merseyside PCSOs finally given handcuffs? 1 2

So it appears they have changed the kit/uniform of Merseyside PCSOs by way of the black jacket, change to the hat badge and now handcuffs. This video shows a Merseyside PCSO outside Southport Police station - I'm kind of surprised that they've made this jump:

Reasons to arrest - Examples and scenarios
by Jamie1983- 1 follower

We have recently have a heavy influx of probationer PCs on our team, and it's always helpful to have real world examples for them (and myself) when teaching them the ropes. I have a few reasons I use regularly, but was wondering if anyone could give some examples they've given to custody sergeants to justify an arrest under IDCOPPLAN? For example, with an arrest for class A, I often say prevent disappearance as their criminal history is such (providing it is) that they are unlikely to attend a summons or caution + 3 knowing that the evidence against them is strong and will likely lead to a custodial sentence. Appreciate this is quite a broad subjec…

This is certainly something which is no doubt close to all our members hearts. As front line workers, we are one of the first responders dealing with a variety of situations that put us in harms way. We have seen first hand how some people have deliberately done so by coughing, spitting and biting officers and then claiming they are COVID-19 positive. New Radio Issues 1 2
by DodgeRam +- 1 follower

So, we've been issued these fancy new radios at work, Motorola something or other. We have discovered two huge issues that I am hoping are just simple fixes! Firstly, I can't find a mute button for the speaker. The only way to turn the sound off, is to plug in an earpiece. It's also not possible to toggle between earpiece and main speaker, you have to physically remove the earpiece to get sound to come out the speaker. Secondly, when you have no signal it goes blooming mental. Screaming a warning tone at you constantly which is impossible to turn down or off! Can anybody shed some light of these are design flaws with this model or if I am missing …

Moving abroad

Hello all, Currently serving for a force down south. I have been looking at moving to the states or Canada to become an officer. It does really interest me, and I'm conpleltley aware of most forces won't consider me due to not being a an American or Canadian citizen. However I am aware that some departments will consider you and sponsor you as long as you have a green card/permit to work. Has anyone Done this? Can anyone shed light on this? What are people's honest views.

Ex-benefits and current benefits
by Javissdaviss *- 0 replies

Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen, According to other threads this comes up a lot, however for the life of me I wasn't able to find a thread at least within the last 4 years on it. What benefits are there currently to being a Police Constable? How do you think these compare to those of the past that are no longer available? Would these changes make you think twice about joining the job today if you were given the chance to start again? Also any positives you love about the job would be great to hear!

Special Warnings

Can anyone clear a few points up with special warnings? My understanding is that you an arrest under prompt and effective to make a special warning available to you, should it be a significant fact a person has a mark. object or was in a place (MOP)at the time of a crime. This would make the investigation more effective as otherwise you could not use these and the courts could not take a negative inference against a no comment in interview. A colleague said, however, they were not applicable in some cases, such as when a person was arrested for possession of class A/B and they admitted it was such om the street pre-caution, therefore to arrest them to utilise a spec…

Thinking of joining the Specials in Herts

Hi, I’m hoping to get to speak to people on here that are Specials, or even Regular Officers that have any opinions on the Specials. Good or Bad, the more honest it is the better... I’m a bit up and down with the idea to be honest, I’ve just been reading through the thread on here talking about there being any good things about Policing any more. I think I get where that person is coming from. The media have really had it in for the Police in the last year, and I’m not sure if I’m made of the right stuff. Maybe at 42, my mind is too fixed in it’s ways to be able to cope? I hate the idea that I might be more of a hindrance than a help. One of my main motivations is fi…
