Hello. After some advice after hearing some murmurs that I am unsure about and don't understand. I have heard of people saying that they won't go for promotion to Inspector as they will have to work on to 60. These are people with well over 20 years in. My situation is that I have 19 years in. I will be 58 when I plan to retire with 30 years service at that point (minus a few months from pension that I brought in). I have my exam and have done around 8months temping. I don't want to work longer than I have to and try and enjoy retirement if I get there. Am I missing something here? Any advice appreciated.

On its own, would you say that wearing a mask or covering your face in some way while walking past a facial recognition van, constitutes grounds to search someone? I have seen a few videos of officers being a bit confrontational with people who do this. Now when I say a bit, I really do mean just a little bit. There's no rudeness or hostility, they are always polite but there's definitely a bit of an accusatory tone in how they speak. I understand the need for cops to have some level of 'professional curiosity' but at some point it starts to feel a little oppressive. Interesting debate the in office regarding surety bail not being used in the UK when realistically it really ought to be utilised more, for anyone who isn't familiar with it:- https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1976/63/section/8 Similar to the US system where a person guarantees they'll appear at court for forfeiting a cash bond or surety if they fail to show. I think there is mass uses for this type of bail and we're missing a trick here, defendants failing to show costs the tax payer a fortune plus the time needed to go out and find them for us.

The ICC prosecutor has requested arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Sinwar for war crimes in Gaza. If the warrants are approved, what would happen if Netanyahu attended a summit or other event in the UK? In theory the officers policing that event would be required to arrest him but would they actually do that considering the diplomatic situation? I assume that the government would avoid the issue entirely by just having him attend remotely like Putin did at the BRICS summit, but curious about what the legal situation would be if he came in person?

Hi, so I am set to begin my training at the end of July, and in preparation I've already bought my first pair of boots. After asking a few people and looking at a few forums I decided on a pair of Altberg Sneekers, with the mindset of 'cry once, buy once'. However I was just wondering, altberg are adamant that you just use their 'Leder-Gris' wax oil if you want to maintain longevity of the leather, but you are told boots have to be polished to a high shine during training. So basically, is the wax oil still worth using if I'm just gonna be polishing them every other day? Or is their wax oil enough to create that shine? Do forces do ride alongs for those of us who aren't actually planning to join the job? I'd read that they do it for those going through the recruitment process, to see what it's like but not sure if that is something which is 'open' to the public in general.
