Hi folks I've finally got my Transit course booked for MK in the coming months. It's been a while since my last response course so I wondered if anyone had the pre-start vehicle checklist somewhere? It starts with the "I'm aware of the layout and function of the controls of this vehicle" and ends with choosing a gear to drive off in. Also, as it's a 4 day course, can anyone shed some light on how they're structured? Thanks!

Hi All, I'm currently considering relocating to the North away from London to get a better quality of life for my young family. Part of this relocation will involve transferring to a new force. I am currently looking at either Durham Constabulary or Cleveland Police. My main deciding factor on which force to apply for is likely to be the shift patterns for response teams. Is anybody able to shed some light on what these are? Do we have any currently serving or recently retired officers from either of these forces that would be willing to answer a few questions that I don't feel can be dealt with appropriately by the corporate HR departments Th…

Hi Can anyone tell me what detectives tend to do if they decide to switch back to uniform? Do they stay at the same pay scale and rank but end up in NPT or response? I’m guessing specialisation is generally out of the question unless the detective has considerably relevant experience.

My partner and I had a argument, first one in a year (impressive given the lockdown). We tend to be a bit loud and call each other a few names. This has been a stressful year, and recently we've added work stress and stress of death of my school friend ( I am 34 and it was a shock). We got a bit carried away. I suppose that was a bit too much for our neighbors in this posh building who called the cops. By the time the cops came, I had calmed down and my partner had left for a walk. The cops took down details about me ( I didn't give them any about my partner) and asked loads of questions about our relationship. I would like to know if this will impact our applicatio…

How do you feel about when you're attending an incident and people are filming you? Don't mean getting right up in your face obstructing you but filming from a short distance away for example. And have you ever asked someone to send a copy of their footage in as evidence of whatever the incident was?

Hey guys, So I'm currently going through the recruitment process for Merseyside as an SC, just waiting on the next available date for the assessment, this is further along the process than I've ever been and it's kind of at the point for me where it's starting to feel like it's getting into serious business. It might sound like a bit of a daft question as I am under no illusions that it's a safe occupation, but now that I'm feeling reasonably confident that I could be in with a decent chance of getting myself through the rest of the process, I find myself needing to ask what the reality is when it comes to how dangerous the job can be. I've heard many stories f…

Hi all, I am currently considering rejoining the job with Hampshire in Investigations. Anyone on here currently serving and can provide any insight into what the working environment is like for CID officers. Also, anyone rejoined? What has been your experience? I've been out of policing for just over 5 years but have missed the variety and camaraderie. Be good to hear others experience. Ta. MM

The image of 2021 policing in the United Kingdom seems to be an almost always negative now. I am young, but even in my short life it seems to now be all the more natural, or normal, to have negativity + policing together. Whether it be in the press, the pub, from police forces themselves (see some of the latest stuff on the forum) or from national leadership (government or otherwise), there does seem to be a lack of pride in the service and appreciation of it, from both within and outside. Even things like promotional videos on YouTube are fewer than in places like Italy (e.g. Polizia Local Promotionale) or the US (e.g. Join LAPD). Why is this and what can it t…

I don't mean stuff like raves where people are blatantly taking the **** but for sake of argument stuff like two friends from separate households meeting on a park bench for coffee when that wasn't allowed. From my point of view there is something really alarming about such a normal thing being illegal, and that for most of this year you've needed a formal reasonable excuse in law just to leave your house. Feels dystopian. Restrictions on our freedom that are utterly unprecedented. On the other hand, we are in a pandemic and those restrictions do have a clear effect in bringing cases down to more manageable levels. Maybe desparate times need desparate measures? How do you…

I'm baffled as to how the person I talked to from Swindon's department apparently didn't think all of those are perfectly fine (refused to even take a report)... do police these days only intervene only if someone is killed?

Hi all, I am due to sit the police Scotland fitness test soon and was wondering if I could get any hints/tips from anyone as to what to expect on the day? I’m incredibly nervous as I’ve been waiting for an intake for a while. It is either the 1.5 mile (most likely) or the bleep test dependant on the weather as there has been some snow and ice. Any tips would be greatly appreciated
