General Policing Discussions

Hi all, Bit of an odd question but does anyone know what rank somebody has to be in order to have dismissal privileges over officers and staff? I suspect that it would at least be at SLT (senior leadership team) level but wondered if there was a specific rank in question? I know that there will be the likes of HR managers etc who can start the ball rolling but it would need to be either under consultation of either the SLT or COT. I only ask as a friend brought it up the other night (they have no involvement in the police) and it got me to wondering.

Just wondering if you have concerns for someone who is mentally unwell but they are at their home address what can be done to help them if they are refusing to go to hospital

Bar the potential classist problem with the likes of Liberty jumping up and down - Given the inherent problem we have in the UK of people failing to surrender to lawful custody of the court why do we not take a more American approach and start utilising surety and securities more often in the UK? People charged with imprisonable offences having some kind of personal monetary backing other than just their word that they'll attend court and surrender to custody? Been reading a few articles lately about disorder increasing at football since return of fans in stadiums. Anecdotally as a big football fan who regularly attends home and away games this seems to be the case. Seems to be lot of quite minor things increasing like bottle throwing, pitch incursions and flares going off in grounds. I'm a massive football fan and luckily had limited experience working football matches but I do have really mixed feelings about whether fans should face a clamp down. Being slightly bored in isolation I got thinking earlier how a few years ago I personally felt like Policing was going to improve, rightly or wrongly I felt there was a sense something had to give and the police were going to get more support. MPs were taking note of Police assaults, PM announced 20K “new” officers and I felt like people were fed up with knife crime and organised criminal gangs. While the vast majority of us have the day off, there's some including the emergency services that can't and I imagine some of you will have worked a Christmas Day before. Do you find it any different to a regular shift? Are people more kinder because it's the season of goodwill or are they more annoyed that you've disturbed their day?
