There's been a lot of media attention on the private Whatsapp group where police officers shared racist and derogatory messages. But should they loose their jobs over it and do the police have a right to access people's personal conversations? I agree that the Commissioner should say stop being members of these groups from a date, but to retrospectively look back at messages years old is a bit much. It's a good job these reporters don't see 90% of what is shared online, they'd have a heart attack.

A family member was arrested (and charged) with shoplifting several months ago. Multiple unrelated items were removed from their home and never referred to during the investigation or at court. Long shot Has anyone had any experience of working for or closely with Trading standards? Not after legal advice but wondering if there is anyone I can drop a DM message to.

So, a family member has been issued a s172 for driving a car with a reg plate that doesn't conform with regulations. Now the car wasn't his (he's a mechanic) and from what he can remember (and from the companies CCTV) the plate was all okay. The only thing he can think of is that it was one of those 'gel' plates so may not have had the manufacturers details on display. Has anyone else's force started using s172s for that offence? It seems a little petty for me when the registration can be clear read. Or am I missing something?

Want to see how other officers/forces deal with collecting vast numbers of CCTV. Is there a more efficient way when vehicles to go and collect are in short supply! In todays world CCTV and other footage is everywhere. We seem to have more CCTV than vehicles and body's to go and collect the footage from the victims. I was just wondering if the community has a effective way of collecting footage from the victim, business etc that would negate the need for an officer/member of staff to spend most of the day travelling round for cctv?

Hey Mister Moderator, I'm in Russia. How is it that Sussex Police is allowed to arrest people for Cyber Crime offenses. Yet, we cannot find anyone with any known qualification in the subject. (We scanned most of the ranges) Your Communications Act 2003 doesn't apply here, and the internet wasn't invented by the British, anyone can view it. What are your thoughts on officers in your force giving regular updates on social media about what they've done on duty? I saw someone mention this tweet by a Sergeant from West Yorkshire police earlier. I assume the intent was to show the public that WYP are being tough on drug dealing but reading the comments, it seems to have backfired. The police are being heavily criticized, people are asking who pays for the door, and questioning whether an officer should really be bragging about a raid where nothing was found.
