Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen, According to other threads this comes up a lot, however for the life of me I wasn't able to find a thread at least within the last 4 years on it. What benefits are there currently to being a Police Constable? How do you think these compare to those of the past that are no longer available? Would these changes make you think twice about joining the job today if you were given the chance to start again? Also any positives you love about the job would be great to hear!

Can anyone clear a few points up with special warnings? My understanding is that you an arrest under prompt and effective to make a special warning available to you, should it be a significant fact a person has a mark. object or was in a place (MOP)at the time of a crime. This would make the investigation more effective as otherwise you could not use these and the courts could not take a negative inference against a no comment in interview. Hi, I’m hoping to get to speak to people on here that are Specials, or even Regular Officers that have any opinions on the Specials. Good or Bad, the more honest it is the better... I’m a bit up and down with the idea to be honest, I’ve just been reading through the thread on here talking about there being any good things about Policing any more. I quite often come across a wanted missing marker on PNC that says 'POWER ARREST'. I've always assumed this means the warrant for their arrest carries it's own arrest power and there is no need for necessity under S24 IDCOPPLAN. Am I correct in this? Hi, I’m still in my probation (Met), I had a notepad on my phone with the correct wording for requiring a specimen of breath for drink driving however i’ve somehow lost this. Can anyone please give me the wording required for requiring a specimen and for the arrest? I would appreciate it very much. I haven’t had to conduct a roadside test yet but i’m sure I will soon with everything going back to normal! Thanks very much.

If you have a person drunk, in a public place, behaving in a disorderly way and the necessity (all assumed correct and authorised), have you ever heard of decisions to ‘NFA’ them on the basis of the “disorderly conduct only happening on arrival and presence of Police”? I am assuming the next team dealing with the DP are just being lazy and, seemingly, spending more time and effort in not dealing with it appropriately, rather than seeking charge, caution or even PND! These days a lot of people use stuff like Tor (a browser which conceals their location and identity) and end-to-end encryption (which scrambles messages so they can't be intercepted). The second one is included by default in WhatsApp and some other popular messaging apps. VPN's also seem to be ubiquitous, whether for privacy or simply because Netflix have rubbish choices if you have a British IP address. In this day and age when just about everything is online, how does usage of stuff like this affect and factor into police work? Does it make people look inherently suspicious just by using these technologies?

When would you use a section 18(5) their presence being necessary at the suspects address? Could anyone give me some real world scenarios where it was necessary in day to day policing? Many thanks, James

Hi All Just after some advice, help, tips and guidance from tutors and students alike. I'm about to start my 10 week tutor con phase after 8 months learning in the classroom. I'm part of the degree apprenticeship and alot of training has been home study and has focused more on the academic side rather than actual policing part of the job. I'm nervous and apprenshive and don't want to fail. I've practiced alot and feel I know my necessity criteria, stop search powers, go wisely etc. Bit rusty on VA's and other alternatives to arrest rather than taking someone to custody everytime. Why does the UK differ from other nations and not have parish constables? Or why is there not really a community police force in some areas of the country? I notice in many towns in Europe and the US, there are town/local police, but not in the UK. Thanks. Edit - poll above for those interested.
