Good evening/good morning I am just after some advice in relation to transferring to the Met. I am currently a response officer for a home office force. I have been a PC for 4 years. I started as a special, obtaining independent patrol status, meaning when I joined up full time, I automatically started one pay scale 1, instead of pay scale 0. I am currently on pay scale 5. Can someone tell me what my salary would be if I was to transfer? I do not live in London. Hi all, Growing up in Perth, Scotland I was always curious as to why male officers up here didn’t wear the traditional custodian helmet. After some research, it seems they were phased out in the late 1950s, apparently due to the bad weather. Somewhat hard to believe, as I hear it can rain pretty heavy down South too! In days gone by, these helmets provided the only form of protection for most officers. They’re not hard hats by any stretch, but I’d probably feel safer wearing one. I imagine they can probably be quite uncomfortable after long periods of use. Some people consider them outdated, but I wonder if it would be worth re-introducing them …

From your experiences working the job, how quickly do your respective CID units get 'involved' following a 999 call reporting a serious offence? E.g. a report comes in of a serious assault or robbery etc, the response officers complete golden hour enquiries - cctv, mg11s, seize property etc and makes any relevant arrests. Obviously, some investigations will be more protracted than others but equally some serious offences are surely more rudimentary and are practically exhausted once golden hour enquiries are completed. In those cases, at what point do your DCs takeover? Do they join the party at the stage of interviewing any offenders using their enhanced interviewin…

With domestic offences, I see it's common for an offender to be nicked even when a victim is not supporting and doesn't wish to give a statement etc Is the same logic supposed to apply for non domestic offences? Obviously with a low level offence there might be no arrest necessity but say if an IP has sustained ABH injuries (cuts, bruises) and a suspect is identified but IP really doesn't want police involvement. Do you nick? If so, is there ever really a prospect of an evidence led prosecution or is the arrest purely an exercise in safeguarding I.e removing the offender from the victim ?

Hello troops, long time no post! I'm back with another scenario I've encountered on numerous occasions and interested to learn if there's any process for the following: I'm white, but work with many BAME officers - it's a massively diverse organisation, but one that has presented a very unique challenge for me. Over my years in front-line policing (immigrationing?) I've had the displeasure of witnessing my BAME colleagues called horric names, such as "traitor," "coconut," "choc ice" and many more. Hello, I am doing some work on our current mental health guidance and im looking to create something for officers to use on the ground. something very brief and to the point. In order to crush all the information down to one usable multi tool document, does anyone have any gems, pieces of information they wish had to hand or something that you really want to know.

The thread in regards to the Fed wanting the ability for police to demand persons stopped on a road traffic stop have to leave their vehicle has gotten me thinking... Are there any gaps in legislation or law that you feel should be plugged to help better protect the public at large or officers? I thought this would make a decent little discussion.

Scenario Person A receives threat from Person B that they are going to damage their car. Next day, Person A notices car has been smashed in an unwitnessed event. Not long after noticing, person B turns up at the scene of damage filming and taunting A over what has happened. Are there grounds to arrest B for this or contemp note them for it at least? Was discussing this scenario with my tutor and was surprised he said that we did not have grounds for an arrest. What do you think?
