I don't want to sound like an old relic, but I can't believe how poorly so many cops handle arrests these days. In my time with a force that uses BWV, I have seen some of the most shocking displays from officers when carrying out arrests. No patience, no tolerance threshold, no attempts to appeal or calm someone down or attempt to get them to co-operate. Instead I see cops barging in like bulls in china shop and actually be the aggressors, often deploying PAVA and strikes on someone for simply offering passive resistance. Hello, There was a new(ish) role rolled out by British Red Cross recently called Community Reserve Volunteer (https://reserves.redcross.org.uk/) . Essentially the volunteer is a local person who signs up for a text alert and if and when the Red Cross send a message, the person can respond (or not) and help fill sand-bags, make tea etc. It seems different to regular volunteer/full-time staff. Hello. I have just moved into CID after we'll over a decade of uniform policing including long long stints as a TPS. I have always loved the job and loved being in response and neighbour hood teams but since moving to CID I am suddenly the butt of everyones jokes and it seems that I can't do a thing right. I am not allowed out on my own despite other colleagues with far less experience (both within and outside CID) being able to make enquires on their own. Prior to the National Crime Recording Standard adoption in 2002, a few police forces adopted the standard. Pre NCRS Violence against the person using the old rules in 1997, it was 230,756. So I'm 10 weeks on shift as a regular PC after my training and I'm about to go indipendant next set however I'm really close to handing my notice in. Does anyone know how many weeks notice I will have to work? There are various reasons for this but it can be summarised as perhaps the jobs not for me and I'm not for the job. There are also other reasons such as workload. I already have 15+ crimes in my basket that due to responding to jobs being with my tutor and picking up every other crime we go to I have made minimal progress on. What do you think about this news story, what Notts Police tried to do and the reaction to their advice? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-nottinghamshire-50565663 It seems like sensible advice to me and doesn't in any way blame single females for getting assaulted when walking alone, but it does recommend that women avoid walking alone at night. I think where Notts went wrong was failing to warn men against walking around alone as well as are almost equally likely to be targets as women are. Hi all I am due to start my training as a Special Constable for my local force in the next 6-8 weeks. I have been thinking about how I may be perceived given my views on being a career Special. I have always wanted to join the police since my early teens, and applied as soon as I turned 18. I applied as a PC with many different forced throughout the UK, including the Met, BTP, all the Welsh forces etc, however, I was always unsuccessful at the vetting stage due to family history (none of which I have any contact with). Hi All I'm starting with BTP in January in London, and as I'm relocating from Yorkshire I'll be needing to sort out some accommodation that doesn't cost a fortune. So far, I've got details of 2-3 housing associations but wondered if anyone has any further details of who to try or does anyone know of any person(s) with flat/ house/ room to let/ share preferably upto £650pcm (all bills included).
