Hi all first post so please be gentle. I am soon to start training. I am older recruit and it has been quite a while since my college days. I am also coming from a background that is completely different to policing. So, what are your top tips to get you through college and those first few shifts. I'm really after that advice that isn't really taught in college. That stuff that you didn't even think that you needed to know but would have proved invaluable if you did. Evening all, I'm hoping some on here can give me a bit of advice or maybe help me see things a bit clearer. I'm currently having sleepless nights as not sure what to do. I've been a Special since 2010. I have loved it (minus the first six months). I soon realised I wanted to be a PC. I applied a couple of times and failed either at the papershift or assessment centre. December I had my second assessment centre and failed by 2% on working with others. From looking at the how Taser was progressively rolled out (starting with Firearms and Specialist units, then to selected officers on Response, and then progressively opened up to more), it got me to thinking: When incapacitant/irritant sprays were first introduced, how were they done? What was the reaction and impressions of it when it was being rolled out?

I’m frustrated about Crime in England. The British Crime Survey says that Anti social behaviour in rural areas is 23%. Yet the National Rural Crime Survey says 48%. Both can’t be right. which Survey should I believe? And yes, I understand that fly tipping is on the rise. The NRCS also says that rural businesses other than farmers is 37%. What are you doing to control fly tipping?

I need to interview someone for an offence. Primarily via voluntary interview. They are outstanding for numerous other offences with other departments who arnt very fussed about the progression and arnt willing to take on my much more simple job. I believe if I arrest I need to get all the jobs dealt with but if I voluntarily interview I may be able to deal with mine alone without interviewing for the others. Its been suggested this may or may not be a breach of process, but does anyone know where this is written. The various experts I have spoken to have conflicting and unsouced assertions. I plan to combe pace codes later. (such excitement)

I was reading the other day about the plans being put in place by most if not all Home Office forces and some non home office forces for how they plan to deal with future recruitment of new staff and their educational standards. If I understand if correctly they are now proposing that those who are not educated to a degree level will be required to undertake a 3 apprenticeship in which they will Join as a constable, and follow an apprenticeship in professional policing practice - earning whilst they learn. As a wife of an officer (WoPO) I am really keen to support him the best I can when he has to deal with all the difficult scenes, situations, and how he manages his health on tough shift patterns (as all officers do), I am really keen to know how I can best support him. Any advice from officers and indeed those whose partners are officers in this forum would be greatly appreciated. - what is the best support I can give - spotting warning signs that could lead to poor mental state - anything that partners of officers do to help them sleep at night whilst they are at work (I’ve been struggling to sleep loads recently whilst he’s on night shift)
