General Policing Discussions

I am aware some forces have dedicated file builders that do all the form filling, disclosure, etc. I'm trying to make contact with any forces that currently have dedicated file builders. We have a Criminal Justice team that send all the papers to CPS/Courts but it is down to the OIC to complete the full file. I've made a suggestion we look at having a dedicate team to build file and now need to speak to forces that have them! Please contact me if you think you can help. Thanks

Just seeking some clarification. I know my force doesn't take in and record lost property these days, but does anyone know if any force does? Having a disagreement at my day job where they say every force does, and will issue a crime number for lost phones. As far as I'm aware all forces will record the loss as part of a crime, but if you just do A Stupid and drop it somewhere they won't.

Hello, I am a policing student and very new to the community. I have an internship in cyprus cid this summer. However I heard some of the students I go to university with saying that if I serve in another country's police force my national clearance level may decrease or I may not even get a job when I come back I the first place. You guys are like experts, does anyone have any idea if I am undermining my own carrer here. Some info about the internship: I will not be a sworn officer. I will be assisting regulars. Thank you.

If you haven't what are your thoughts and opinions. Background ## I have applied for the scheme with less than 5 years service in my role. Why is there a two strike law? Meaning if I was carrying a knife in a public place on the first offence, the magistrate can set that aside, while the second and third time, the magistrate can send me to mandatory sentence. Why are magistrates allowed to show such leniency on the first offence?

Hi, I've just received confirmation of my appointment and have a start date with Northumbria Police in early November, which obviously I'm buzzing about. The only downside is that starting on £24k I'll have taken a significant pay cut. So I'm wondering what the scope is for new recruits to take on overtime to offset the loss of earnings? Is it even possible, or will I have to get a certain number months under my belt before I can take on the overtime? Whilst I'm at it, am I right in thinking 9.5% is deducted for my pension? Any other deductions I'll need to know about? Just trying to get an idea as to how much I'll need to tighten the belt, thanks!

We all make mistakes, even British police officers. My mistake was not being knowledgeable about weapons during riots. I had said that I believe that carrying weapons in self defence was unacceptable. This was always my understanding. However, based on my understanding of riots being a dangerous circumstance, I thought it would be okay to carry a weapon during a riot.
