Hi all Since November I have been training to be a Special Constable and I am pleased to say that I will be attesting in a couple of weeks. Training has been a fantastic experience; I have made some great new friends and learnt some new skills. I am really looking forward to getting out there. I think the favourite part for me was getting my uniform, that made it all feel very real! Obviously now that the coronavirus crisis is upon us, police forces are asking specials to step up and help at this time of need. My employer is part of the Employer Supported Policing scheme, where they let us have a certain number of days off a year to go and work with the police, …

Do forces outside London have high performance 'Area' or 'RT' cars? The Met have 3 and 5 series BMW estates and other vehicles with bigger engines. These are driven by borough officers not traffic. Most local cars I see are Peugeot. Never seen a high powered response car?

Evening all hope you all well The question i have is that a few works ago a Custody Sgt asked a Student Officer to arrest a Prisoner in the Cell Block who was abusive, and violent. he was arrested for a Sec 4 Public Order Is this really the right offence to arrest for is my question, as i thought the right offence would be Sec 29 Town Police Causes Act 1847.......... OR IM A WRONG? Also i would the student officer be right to have refused the sgt orders ?? i would have said nooooooooo has the custody sgt lost his powers of arrest????

There are many different police forces, officers, police staff, Council Officers, wardens, marshals, hospital security, prison officers, highway officers, inspectors, court officers, security officers, animal control etc. Is it time for the UK to adapt more to the needs of 21st Century public safety and have more police forces/‘police officers’ ... as in swear in court officers to be able to arrest escaping prisoners and violent persons, swear in hospital officers - to become a regional or national hospital Force to better safeguard people. Or a Mental Health police service, dealing with just those cases (and security at MH hospitals) It could be (dare I say …

All, in the current climate, do you think there should be more of a National and regional effort at organised Civil Defence and engagement? The Civil Defence Corps was disbanded in the sixties, but was to deal with nuclear warfare, civil unrest, pandemics, war, strikes, floods etc. Seeing as the government are now calling for hundreds of thousands of volunteers and ex medics, pondering about ex police etc, would it not be a good idea to have a proper emergency management/civil defence service to supplement regular services (which are clearly under strain at normal times), that are already organised and ready? Popular in Isle of Man, Ireland, US etc. Additionall…

All, Does anyone have any experience of British police serving overseas: -UN -British Overseas Territories -Commonwealth / ex-empire nations -International security/rescue groups (e.g. Afghanistan) It seems to generally be for law and order support (Hurricane Irma in Caribbean) or professional support for investigations or enhancing certain units (mostly BOT) or training (UN). What type of people generally get posted, I assume it's mostly volunteers? A long shot, but have any Specials been involved in such? Thanks fbo

Good Morning, I realise this may not be entirely feesible given the nature of our roles etc but I was wondering with the amount of misinformation lurking on the Web that generates alot of traffic (Crimebodge, PAP etc) would it not seem like a logical step forward for the forum team to take and perhaps come up with a YouTube Channel? The channel could pass commentary on policing news events, policing theory, legislation changes, policing history etc. Ultimately this would also serve the Forum by encouraging more traffic this way aswell. Just an idea I wanted to throw out there for discussion.

Would each member of a team for an external company doing web IT work on behalf of a Police force be vetted. Specifically would the employee for the external company be vetted on mental health issues, if they had a clean DBS check, doing IT work for a police force.

Anyone here a user of the Police Mutual Sectionshifts website? I've been trying to get on it recently but not having any luck. Seems to indicate it might be now blocked by firewall or virus guard software.

Hi all, hope everyone is safe and well during this time. I had applied to GMP as a special constable and had passed all of the assessments. Interview, situational judgement test, written exercise, fitness and medical. I was given an offer and a start date. Unfortunately I had moved to London by the time my start date was given as I had waited such a long time for a start. When I moved to London I attended an open day for the Met to ask a few questions regarding applications and if I would need to do everything from the start, assessments etc. I was told that because the specials assessment is the same across all UK forces, I would only have to do the medical an…

I am a former BTP Special Constable. In these increasingly difficult times I want to help in any way I can. I am a trained first aider and remember much of my original police training. Does anyone have any thoughts on what I can or should do?

Looking at the mess the country is in and speaking with people in the retail trade and they say the shortages will be with us for some time, as the majority of people are not able to buy the basics, some are those in other quarters who are predicting that food shortages are going to be a catalyst for rioting, I have to say I agree as there is a really ugly and selfish mood out there at the moment. You only have to look at supermarkets which opened only for elderly or vulnerable people this morning but were rushed by people who didn't qualify who stripped the shelves of essentials within minutes! Time for action and not dithering from the government?

Now that most shops are closed what do you think the low hanging fruit shop lifters are doing for their drug money nowadays?
