Just would like some advice RE plain clothes operations. It has been suggested that in order for a normal uniformed officer to conduct plain clothes patrols around towns/areas that they would need a RIPA authority. Please could someone help me out? I didn't think that you needed a RIPA if your simply conducting plain clothes patrols as your not surveying someone and not targeting a person?

This conversation started in "Post your kit belt" and took that thread a little off topic. So here is a whole area on its own for discussing anything you want, in relation to batons. Personally, my force issue us with 22" Autolocks + Hindi Cap. Good bit of kit in my opinion, but one of the disadvantages in my mind is the rattle you get from it. Never been issued a friction lock, but have held one and thought they felt really solid in comparison. So share your thoughts... What do you use? Would you prefer something else? Have you had issues with previous models/manufacturers?
