Hello, I was watching a video about the interview procedure for the CNC, a good point was made about actually going to the police and going for a ride along. I have heard this is not always allowed due to insurance. Has anyone ever gone for a ride along? I was thinking or trying and if I dont get in then I can just speak to a constable or who is in charge some questions. What types of questions would you say are good to ask. I am not experienced and dont want to ask silly questions. Thanks in advanced

Hi I was wondering if I need to TAX my newly bought vehicle parked outside my house on a private road? Would appreciate if somebody with the right knowledge could get help me with this. I do a have a shared drive way hence I can't park it there, also my other car is parked up on my own drive and there is another space for parking this newly bought car! So my only choice is to park it on the road despite being private road. Many thanks

Just a quick question. Underwent my Border Force PST today and was training on a new technique that has apparently come from the police called Shapes. Has anyone heard of it? Tried looking online as I always like to find out a bit more info, like SPEAR, but can't find anything.

Hi all, I’ve searched everywhere for this info but not found anything. I’m looking at getting replacement wing mirror indicators that have a built-in DRL function. Is the DRL legal to have on? The car already has a set of DRL’s fitted into the fog light housing but i’d like this additional set. Looking at the number concerns raised around the quality/quantity of PST I start to wonder what is actually being delivered by different forces. Within the cathedral constabularies we receive two full days annually of PST, which generally covers unarmed techniques, rigid handcuffs and tactical baton training. Although these are repeated on every occasion they occasionally include cell/vehicle extraction (not that we have any), leg restraints etc. We do not have PAVA so don't cover this. We also have a written knowledge check test which must be passed along with competency assessment. We receive separate first aid training so this does not form part of PST. From some …

Hi all, So I was recently alerted by a colleague to the fact that soon probationary officers would be allowed to carry taser despite not being outside their 2 year student officer period. At first I understood it to mean that officers going through their basic training would receive it however I have since had it clarified. I'm in a new role at the moment. It's stressful, but not overly so and certainly not more than I have dealt with for years. It is a new challenge so in I have dived. For the last couple of weeks I have been irritable, angry, short tempered and generally unpleasant to be around. But I didn't notice. It wasn't until my other half called me on it that I realised that something was up. Some significant introspection later and I feel pretty good. Its like my irritation has been washed away. The reason I mention it is that I genuinely didn't realise. I like to think I'm pretty solid mentally and mental health and welfare is an interest of mine. So it was a sur…

Hi all, Hopefully you can help me out with my below issue I’m a probationer, came out of my 10 week tutorship around 5 weeks ago now. And I’m still getting the feeling I’m way out of my depth. Even though I’m independent I find myself contacting the sgt / colleagues for advice around jobs and ‘what to do’ I feel like I’m 90% of the time relying on my colleagues to help me. Is this normal of probationers? How long will this last? Although being signed off as independent I don’t feel very independent and often feel swamped at jobs and still not knowing what to do. Hi everyone, i recently completed my senior interview with Essex Police and was succesful. They are currently trying to get me onto an intake on the 7th of May, providing my personal and business references all check out. I am moving to a different county for work (from Cornwall, all the way to Essex). I am wondering whether any help is provided to trainee's in that regard? I have heard that some forces provide accomodation to training PC's, and perhaps other staff, but am not sure if this is still a thing. Hi guys, just out of interest and to shed some light on your working practices. In our force, if we suspect alcohol we would normally conduct road side breath test. If that comes back as “fail”, we would arrest for S5 over drink drive limit. Say for example we have no EBA kit available on the roadside, we would arrest on suspicion for S4 unfit and take them back to custody to put them on Intox machine. My question is, if they pass the EBA part in custody would you then conduct Impairment/FIT test and then bloods? Secondly, a separate incident you conduct Drug Swipe and this comes back positive for Cannabis. Would you arrest for S4 and S5A or just the one offen…

I began wearing discrete body armor about six months ago as violent crime in my area is increasing and I have to walk to and from my university, sometimes late at night. The body armor does not have any use as a weapon - if in theory I were to kick someone with the shin guard on, it would probably cause them less damage than if I kicked them with an uncovered knee. I do not carry any weapons and I always avoid confrontations. I don't do anything to attract police attention and I've never been stopped by police, but how would a police office react if they searched me randomly and/or noticed me wearing it?
