Good Afternoon Ladies and Gents, Recently saw a topic on acting off duty, it got me wondering... When an officer acts off duty, how do you call for help from your colleagues if needed? Is the fastest route still 999? Does this impact your decision to step in?

Hi, After some advice, we have had a SORN vehicle parked outside our house on a public road for the past 4 days. We do not know the owners but suspect it belongs to belligerent neighbours who live 5 houses away. Would this be a matter for the police to issue fine and/or two the car away, or the DVLA (who are not known for dealing with these matters swiftly). Looking on the MOT check, MOT expired in October 2020 and it is currently registered as SORN. Thanks for any advice. Phil

When reporting someone for a traffic offence such as no insurance, any interview you carry out is a caution + 2 as they are not entitled to legal advice pre interview (I'm not including dangerous driving etc.) If they say they want legal advice you can refuse them and explain and carry out the interview (whether they answer questions or not.) Probably looking for advice here from someone who has spent some time working in investigations or prepping case files My understanding is that all relevant unused material needs to be scheduled on MG6 series. I just watched a video of an officer attending calls to a possible party, the occupant denies it and says they need a warrant. The officer replies he has a power of entry. Bearing in mind this is a clip with little context, I'm not questioning the officer as we are not aware of all the facts. It did raise a question though. My understanding, as of now, officers don't have a general power of entry if they suspect an illegal gathering, in order to give tickets. They do, however, if they believe there is an infectious persons inside and there is a need to prevent infection. Looking at the recent news stories on here, as well as public order events over the summer,stop-search, racism stories, officers being arrested for theft or indecent acts, etc, etc, plus lack of numbers and generally tough conditions, is there anything positive left in UK policing? Is it something that people still aspire to be a part of, or admire? It's never been pretty and rosy, but these last couple of years it seems to be really rare to find anything positive about policing, in journalism, in younger or older people, or even with MPs and leaders of businesses etc. Any thoughts from people inside or outside the service?

We have recently have a heavy influx of probationer PCs on our team, and it's always helpful to have real world examples for them (and myself) when teaching them the ropes. I have a few reasons I use regularly, but was wondering if anyone could give some examples they've given to custody sergeants to justify an arrest under IDCOPPLAN? For example, with an arrest for class A, I often say prevent disappearance as their criminal history is such (providing it is) that they are unlikely to attend a summons or caution + 3 knowing that the evidence against them is strong and will likely lead to a custodial sentence. So, we've been issued these fancy new radios at work, Motorola something or other. We have discovered two huge issues that I am hoping are just simple fixes! Firstly, I can't find a mute button for the speaker. The only way to turn the sound off, is to plug in an earpiece. It's also not possible to toggle between earpiece and main speaker, you have to physically remove the earpiece to get sound to come out the speaker. Secondly, when you have no signal it goes blooming mental. Screaming a warning tone at you constantly which is impossible to turn down or off! Can anybody shed some light of these are design flaws with this model or if I am missing …

Hello all, Currently serving for a force down south. I have been looking at moving to the states or Canada to become an officer. It does really interest me, and I'm conpleltley aware of most forces won't consider me due to not being a an American or Canadian citizen. However I am aware that some departments will consider you and sponsor you as long as you have a green card/permit to work. Has anyone Done this? Can anyone shed light on this? What are people's honest views.
