To join the regs I here you need to have a level 3 or the equivalent? (Winsor report) What are everyone's thoughts on this? Derbyshire Police recruitment will not even entertain you at all without level 3? What about if you don't have a level 3 but been a Special Constable for 3 years........ They still won't let you apply!

Morning / Afternoon / Evening all I have a question regarding force branded stab vests. My query is raised due to a recent job I was involved in. I recently had a fairly short foot chase where I jumped out the car to run after a gentlemen who had just run past us. Now, I am not exactly Usain Bolt, but neither am I a couch potato. I train 6 days a week (although mostly weight training) but can happily run for an hour. The issue I had, was that as the guy was sprinting, 6"3 and wearing trainers and trackies, I was never going to catch him. I found that after about 150m I was totally gassed out. The extra Kgs on my upper body puts a huge amount of strain on you if you fin…

Hi everybody, I've recently been told that Specials who carry kit to and from their duties will require Business Motor Insurance on their vehicle. On my current Motor Insurance Policy I have put down that I'm a Special Constable as an additional occupation and do not get any financial gain from being a Special just my expenses so I'm unsure why I would also need Business Insurance? Has anyone else come across this? Thank you

Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone here does commute on motorcycle? What do you actually have to take to and from work? Thanks in advance.

My vote cast. This site has been instrumental for me in my application to join the Specials, and also later considering joining the Regulars. Now, it plays an equally important role as I go through my training and can learn from others' experiences and also ask questions of serving officers. I really valued being able to read about how others went through the selection and training process, and that's why I've been posting the diary of my training. I've lurked a liitle on some of the other sites (like police999.com and police-recruitment.com) but they don't even come close to PoliceSpecials.com in terms of the support and advice available. So in answer to Andy's othe…

Firstly, I know by posting this i'm likely to get some negative replies, I've been around as an SC for a while and I've seen many intakes of new specials coming onto my Borough which is great! Myself (and a few other long term specials) have noticed that many of the newer specials have got a terrible attitude when it comes to the job. When I say this I mean like, not being focused on 'bread and butter' policing. More interested in getting arrests and blagging half price nandos. When I first joined it was made clear that until IPS has been reached we were meant to be focusing on the wisdom of older specials and PC's. I walked into the office the other day, a few new s…

Start my training in April (Lancs) and just curious and these questions might sound a bit stupid but after training how does your first shift work? How do you know where to go, go the front desk and they will take you through? Who do you introduce yourself to? How do you know who your tutor is? Who assigns you a locker?

Hi, I have just passed my day one selection and I am down to do my fitness, medical, etc soon. The problem I have is that I was given a course start date in April but I can't make four of the dates on the course. This means that I am going to have to wait another six months till I can start the next course in September. Is there any way around this, is it possible to pick up the modules I will miss, on the days I can't make, at a later date or with another intake? Just wondering if anyone had any advice! thanks

I am applying to be a regular however in my current employment I have a 3 month statutory notice period. Obviously I can always retract my notice if I fail, but I don't want to turn it in too early and then find myself jobless before I even know the results. I also don't want to hand it in after I find out the results from the assessment center and then have a start date that conflicts with my current employment. Can anyone advise on how I should best handle this and at what stage I should consider handing my notice in?
