General Policing Discussions

Hi guys, I would like to join as a special constable one day, but I was wondering whether my personality is good enough? I'm somewhat of an introvert- I don't really like socialising with other people, but I have no problem speaking to strangers if necessary (perhaps I could describe myself being 'slightly shy'?). I'm OK to do something like a presentation infront of groups of people, so I'd rate my public speaking skills 6.3/10 (it could be worse ) It takes me a while to trust people, but the people I trust, I end up becoming very close to (thats the whole introvert thing for ya ) I don't consider myself "aggressive", in-fact, I don't get mad at all- the last time …

I stumbled upon the twitter account of what appears to be a private company, known as Parkguard Ltd. They appeared at first glance to just be a security company specialising in open spaces but after browsing further it seems they have a fairly extensive role in their local area with regard to cooperating with police (Appears to be Islington, Ealing, Acton, amongst others). There are references to being involved with 'fail to stops', stopping individuals for drug possession, joint patrols with the met, dog work. Can anybody tell me if officers (regulars or specials) are entitled to free travel on trains and buses if used to travel to and from work?

Hi there, I'd just like to share some of my honest experiences and explain the issues. So, i'm going to start with how the met market the MSC. Its foul play at it's finest. The met's intention is to trap people, specifically those who wish to join full time. The way it works is like this: An enthusiastic person wants to join the police full time, so they pass the recruitment to become a Special, they complete they're training, attest and everything seems fine and dandy. I am doing a bit of research on the topic of reward and recognition for special constables as a retention tool, and I am compiling a short report on this subject for my forces SC Steering Group. As well as contacting individual forces, I am keen to find out how individuals feel too.
