Are Specials liable to be called onto duty by their force? What I mean by this is, if there is ever a significant event, or incident, within the force area (or perhaps neighbouring force area), can your force call you out to duty, even if you weren't scheduled to do so? Such events include, for example: Floods Crashed plane Gunman (think Cumbria) Civil unrest Terrorist incident Industrial incident Naturally, I'd hope that, being available, once you know of such an incident, we'd all spring into action. However, if you don't know about the incident, or intelligence has suggested something is going to happen (but it's not public), would we ever be called upon?

I'm interested in joining the Kent special constabulary as I currently can't apply to become a full fledged officer (I don't have any A-Levels) and I was wondering what's the likelihood of becoming an officer through being a special? A friend of mine who works for the police told me that it's a good likelihood if you've attained independent patrol status within 2 years and shown a good track record. My dream is to one day be a detective. I'm currently 23 years old, but I left school when I was very young (bad decision) and only hold GCSE's. Here's an interesting hypothetical: The Magistrates' Act 1980 states that on an information being laid before a justice of the peace that a person has, or is suspected of having, committed an offence the justice may issue -- a warrant to arrest that person and bring him before a magistrates' court. Well its been a fist old struggle. I have to say. Not run for approx 10yrs. Hammered myself through bleep test. Passed all the other bits. Mountain of paperwork being the worst. Buy yesterday, finally, I received my formal offer. Well pleased. Uniform fitting all done. All sat in a kit bag waiting for me. Start training 28/04/2015.
