Ok the weather was not great, but what a summer. For me it was amazing, it started with Moto GP, F.One, The Torch Relay, Nothampton Carnival, The Olympics, The Northamptonshire Police open day to name but a few, not to mention moving to a new BCU, getting a new pro-active team to look after. This summer was one of my best policing summers yet! What has Summer 2012 been like for you as an Officer?

I am of course referring to the world record attempt to be held in Druridge Bay later this month. More info here: http://www.bbc.co.uk...d-tyne-19490442 I am not a shy person when my clothes are on but the thought of doing this somewhat turns me on/ scares the life out of me. I am seriously considering going up and joining in though. I've already been a part of breaking one world record attempt, why not make it two? Anyone else braving the cold morning waters? (Incidentally when looking for a hilariously suggestive photo that would complete this page I came across this article and was surprised at how many nudist beaches there already are! I thought there was too much…

The word `Hero` is normally used to describe a person who has done something outstanding such as risking their own life to save others. Or, it could be as a combatant in a conflict, who's bravery has won the day. Many times we now see it used to describe sports persons or teams who have won their event, or a person who has raised the most funds for a charity. I personally don't like using the term `hero` for anything other than heroic work as described in the beginning of my post. I don't have a favourite hero, but people like Cpl. Johnson Beharry VC and others who have won similar awards are at the top of my list. Who is your favourite `Hero`?

A thread to share any weird, wacky, or even handy iPhone apps * Rimshot & Crickets (Free): Like a personal soundtrack to your life, this app will provide suitable sound effects for almost any occasion. Cracked a funny joke? Use the rimshot sound effect to produce the badum-tish cymbal crash used in old comedy routines to signal to the audience that someone had said something amusing. Cracked a joke that’s gone down like a lead balloon? Then the sound effect of chirruping crickets will come in handy. There’s also the wa-wah-waah trombone sound effect that can be used whenever an unfortunate fate befalls you or someone nearby, as well as a slow hand clap to signify the…

Is it me, or others finding that a lot of people on here are just posting with the aim to wind up and insult other people? We are all here for one thing, either because we are joining the specials or because we are a Special/PC/PCSO however so many people just seem intent on causing trouble! I don't intent this topic to be a grounds for a bitching fest but seriously, cut it out and respect each other. My two cents.

Hello everyone, I’m Ben Thacker (aka Westwood) the founder of Neuroliberation campaign which is currently campaigning against the rapid expansion of the gambling industry since the gambling act 2005.I am currently petitioning to get betting shops removed from town centres, high streets and other places where children, young people and families are likely to be.Please sign the petition at > http://epetitions.di...petitions/36386 Since the Gambling act 2005, betting shops have been able to open on any high street they want, with no need to apply for planning permission. Since then, you’re never ever really far from a Coral, William Hill, Ladbrokes or another brand of be…

Did anyone watch this documentary? It was shown last night on the National Geographic channel. Incredibly moving accounts from a handful of the firefighters who went to the towers on that fateful day and from some of those rescued by firefighters who lost their lives. Well worth watching. As for the day itself, I remember it very clearly. I was working in London at the time in a large accountancy firm. We had an open-plan office and a couple of people were watching the news on someone's PC. Shouts of 'Oh my god' so more of us crowded round and watched in complete shock really. As we watched the second plane came in and hit the South Tower. It was quite unbelievab…
