In this interview with LBC today, Sir Bernard Hogan Howe says in the next few weeks he will announce plans to have a 'mobile armed capability', where 'some officers will have an extra skill'. This seems to be the first hint at having current non-AFO's trained in the use of firearms so they can be called upon as and when needed, my thinking is it will begin with units such as the TSG.

Not sure if this has been covered before or not. I need some urgent assistance and need to know if SCs have a union body that we can go to please?

Hi All, My force is currently looking at training SC's in Level 2 PSU, which is something we have talked about doing for some time and I know other Forces are ahead of the game here with PSU Level 2 Trained Staff. Couple of questions: 1) What Force are you in 2) Do you train SC's in Level 2 PSU 3) What is the length of the Level 2 PSU training (also is this done or weekends or weekdays). Thanks in advance, Steve

I'm possibly looking for a transfer out of the capital however I'm wondering if I can afford it. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with what a typical wage packet (net) of a response officer, including unsocial hours, is each month. I am on payscale 5 at the moment (I think, have around 5 years service) I'm looking at transferring out to a county force that wouldn't pay any allowances

Firstly, please note I understand the forums disclaimer, so I will post it bellow: Afternoon all, Hope you all had a good Christmas. Mine wasn't too good this year, I have Asthma and I have been surfing very bad lately due to the smell of cannabis coming through my walls from our neighbour. The smell isn't like the ussual musk, its STRONG. Well, let me begin by saying that it is not my next door neighbours, it is a house next door to my next door neighbour (1 house down). There is 3 houses that are all smelling it coming through the walls, and it's just becoming that unbearable I am currently on prescribed steroids to prevent me having an asthma attack and my window…

I have recently joined the community (see new members) but want to, on behalf of the College of Policing, engage with as many members of the SC as possible to seek your views on the design of a model to assess competence of SC officers in the workplace. The proposal arises out of the Winsor review in linking progression through the pay scales to performance and competence for regular officers. However Winsor also recommended that this also apply to the Special Constabulary but without the pay element. I would like any views or comments you may have on the any of the following - viability of all SC officers having an annual appraisal?, whether it should be the force appra…

Hi all, Just looking for tips really, I've got my independence assessment on Wednesday of next week, the 16th, and I'm anxious (as you can imagine). Skeptical about what's going to happen. Had a brief meeting with my S/SGT and my S/INSP who briefed me that someone failed on the day I had a chat with them, and that the best process is to do the following: PredPol Checks Copy of the briefing Chat to the Skipper prior to heading out to see if there's anything in particular he wants us to do Controlled by myself for the shift as appose to what we respond to. This is all common courtesy but was apparently forgotten. I suppose I assumed the assessment would be more set by t…

Hi everyone I'd be very interested to see the feedback on this poll, which I have kept very basic and to 6 questions so as to keep it concise . This surrounds the activities undertaken by SC's and what they most and least enjoy. The lists are non-exhaustive and would really benefit from "Others" answers being expanded upon. Ideally we'd split this by regional service, and work out what they get their SC's to do compared to others - but that can come later. PS. This is in "General Discussion" rather than "Polls" - so feel free to move this

Hi all. First visit to the site and would be grateful for any advice. Would be grateful for some general advice with a situation which has been ongoing for several years now. I’ve been aware for some years that there is a drug dealer in my area close by. Over the years I’ve made a number of calls to the police but he’s never stopped selling in all that time. Recently after he had a visit by police turning up they left empty handed. That very same evening he’s out selling once again, now more than at any time I can remember. Maybe there are bigger issues out there but his activities have ruined what would otherwise be a very nice street. Morni…

This is aimed at Specials only. I’m interested in what your facilities are like as Specials. In your station, what are your facilities like? Do you share the station equally with your (PCSO and Regular) colleagues? Do you have your own computers, cabinets, storage, office, brew locker, locker room, etc? As the number of Specials in my station increases (currently 5, going up to 9 by Feb), I'm concerned that we don't have a place in the station that we can call our own. When it comes to "real estate" and facilities, we come below the CSOs by way of priority. The Regulars, naturally, have the sort of facilities you'd expect; brew lockers (by rota), personal draw…

Is being a Special or regular what you expected it to be? Simple but i think interesting question. The reason why I ask is because I can't decide if being a special has made me want to do regular policing more or put me off.

Does anyone know why the Essex Police Crest / Badge design does not include EIIR (Queen Elizabeth the Second)? Instead, in the centre are the three SEAX or swords. Incidentially, are there any other Counties which omit Her Majesty's Cypher? Many thanks in advance
