Hello all, I've received message back from Essex Police that my vetting has been passed, but cannot be signed off until I've handed them proof I'm paying an old defaulted account from 5 years ago, otherwise it will be failed. I have been paying this, but I've reached what seems like an impasse; The account is being handled by a company called CSL, and they're stating they cannot send me a letter or email proving the arrangement in place. They don't have the authorisation and the man I spoke to claims he doesn't have the ability at his system either. I am due to start my SC training at the end of Feb with Lincolnshire Police and had a quick questions about Shift Patterns. Are there 'normal' shifts that the Regular officers work, for example do they do Earlies, Lates and Nights or are there 12 hour days and nights? And what time are these shifts usually from and to? I want to be as much of an asset to my team as I can be and I feel that doing a full shift the same as them will be better for them and me as I will be able to attend briefings etc with them and see the full shift through with them. Hello all, A thought occurred to me today given that I will be working a shift at night in a week or so and I wanted to get peoples opinions on it. Essentially Im an ale fan and my plan was to go for lunch somewhere around 2pm, have about two pints with my lunch then go on shift at 10pm. This is entirely a foot patrol so I wouldn't be in charge of a vehicle and there would be a good 7 hours between me drinking a relatively small amount of alcohol and going on duty. I just wondered if there was any guidelines on this or what peoples opinions are? Initially I didn't think anything of it but the more I think about it, perhaps its best to stay away altogether? Hi, I'm working with a film production company and doing a bit of research on something I can hopefully get a bit of help with here (it's not a survey or a questionnaire). Basically, I'm looking to find out what the protocol might be if the Police had a situation where they needed/wanted to swab every visitor to a nightclub for DNA, what steps do they have to take to do so lawfully? Do they need a warrant of any kind? Or just permission from the nightclub? In addition, would it have to be on a voluntary basis - I.E. anyone visiting that club could refuse to be swabbed if they so wished? Just looking to see how that kind of thing works in the UK general…

Hi all, I've recently had my dates confirmed for PDU 1 and been assigned a tutor and shift for it - very exciting! I have been thinking though, what's the best way to introduce myself to the group on my first shift? I was thinking just a quick hello during briefing... My thoughts on it have extended as far as what to bring with me; I was thinking a box of muffins and a pack of nice metal forks. Would this go down well? Should I add anything else?

I am just seeking some advice here. I am coming to the end of the recruitment process with Merseyside Police. However I have been asked a question from my employer before they grant permission to allow this secondary employment. What would you do if on duty and witnessed a crime at an incident? The fire service I work in is a different area to the area I am applying to be a special. I am wondering if there are any other specials who are also wholetime firefighters? There is guidance that has been produced that states you are allowed to be a firefighter and a special with the agreement of both chief officers. Can anyone tell me on what grounds can a office lose there independent status

Our role is being tweaked and we are looking at doing a lot more fast road incidents. However the car kit we have is pretty nonsense if it's even actually in the car. I am trying to get some new kit and was wondering if anyone has any kit that particularly works re lights. I am trying to get these led road flares which look a bit like hockey pucks. Does anyone use these? We have been told they don't conform to lighting regs. Which is frustrating as they seem ideal and the large yellow builders lights we have are laughable.

Morning all, As a motorcyclist I do witness incredible amount of cases, when people are on their phones - talking, texting, updating facebook etc. I have seen people eating behind the wheel or checking emails on iPad while driving 60 mph. Nothing new, I know that but sometimes because they do not pay attention very dangerous situations happen. I do wear helmet camera and have good evidence there. My question is: is there any point of reporting things like that? I'm not saying that I encourage ignoring things, but does police follow up on reports supported by video? If there is minor offence I can imagine priority would be rather low.
