General Policing Discussions

So had my station induction on Tuesday and our co ordinator said we should buy a holder for our PNB. Anyone have any suggestions for a good leather holder/case? Also. We got issued our traffic offence report forms, cannabis warning forms etc - what do you guys / ladies use to hold these? Do you just leave them loose in your kit bag? I was thinking maybe a plastic folder wallet type thing but not sure what the "norm" thing to do is. Any feedback much appreciated

Stop the scathing cuts to the Police budget. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/109383 PCSO`s soon to be gone, few if any traffic cops left, different figures showing different crime stats, I would tend to side with criminal acts are growing. I feel a riot like in 2011 Police would no longer be able to cope.

DO we as police officers have any search powers when we suspect a young person 16 or under has tobacco on them? I know we can seize it though. I note, though, that PCSOs have a power of search for tobacco, but alas police officerds are not mentioned in this legislation! Any ideas? Someone mentioned doing a S1 PACE search for prohibited items, but that's kinda stretching the meaning!

This has been debated on here more times than Cher has had comebacks but with an influx of new members of late I thought it'd be worth a new debate. There's an "illusion" that UK Police have never been armed, however going back to the early days the Police had access to swords and pistols, but in the later half of the 20th century there was a movement towards professionalization deployment of firearms ( prior to the disbandment of city forces in the 1970s several had 100% of officers trained in the use of firearms, compared to some forces who now have as low as 1%) Bearing in mine that modern restrictions on the carriage of firearms could prohibit the arming of Specials…

I am halfway through Special Constabulary training and we've been recommended not to discuss to much operational info with family, especially local stuff. My wife however works for the same force working with DV cases and talks about work but has had similar warnings. I'm curious what peoples opinions are about discussing things that are currently active with someone else who is "In the trade" either family or friends that is not directly related to your area? I'm not sure where I stand on this so I'm open to everyone's opinion. Thanks.

Right we all know why we joined the police or why we are joining athe police, whether it be the regulars or as a special but we can't sugar coat everything in life so....... How do we deal with the horrific sights we see or are going to see? How do we deal with the situations that we could come across? I'm looking at the ones already in the job to help us joining the police on what we can expect and how can we get through it. Please post your advice for us to take and board, so the bad side of the job doesn't hit us too hard. Kev

If you were a Chief Constable of the regional service in which you reside, and were told "Here's £50,000,000. You are in control of your own budgeting. You can do what you feel best to benefit the service and/or the people in your county/area. You can make changes, cuts to free up more money or put the money I'm giving you into more of what you already have", what would you spend it on and in what areas? Now I'm aware the cost of things differ from region to region, and it's not easily quantifiable and that sort of money can be eaten up quite quickly. But I'm curious...
