Source: https://www.policespecials.com/about.html The forum is the heart of PS.com so for anyone who has landed here first, they can find the same information that may have perhaps been overlooked on the main site. About Specials and the Special Constabulary The Special Constabulary is the United Kingdom's part-time police force. It is made up of members of the public who volunteer to spend some of their time helping to police their local community. Each of the 43 police forces in England and Wales, as well the 8 Scottish forces and British Transport Police, has their own Special Constabulary. The concept of the public helping to police has been in existence for liter…

Please can any of you cops explain to me the concept of an 'attachment' I.e. Attachment to the RPU. How does a special come about it? Is it only for a certain amount of time? If you like it can you ask to be attached to that branch always? Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Pretty self explanatory but I've asked to be based in my home town, I don't live in a city however with the terror threat at SEVERE on police nowadays and all the other stuff going on and what challenges we face, how have you all found it? If you have had challenged please tell me the what situations you faced about dealing with people you arrested and seeing them off duty. Cheers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hello I am due to start training as a special in January. I have been given a guide which states that an unshaven (i.e stubble appearance) is not acceptable but a full beard or moustache is. My light coloured facial hair is around 4mm and kept tidy and trimmed. I would say it is more than stubble/5 o'clock shadow but hardly a Brian Blessed beard! I would like some guidance as to whether people feel that my facial hair would be acceptable. I have attached a picture.

I was watching this video last night which captured people driving like lunatics on a fairly busy public roundabout and noticed that the police didn't seem to do much about it. What could they have done and what would you have done?

Hey all, Some time ago we had cards issued with acronyms on them for the order of a PNC person and vehicle check and the order of what PNC/Comms want the information. I've searched and spoken with everyone I can think of who may have some of them but I'm drawing a blank. Does anyone have them or can remind me of what order they go in? The reason I ask is I've been asked to train some new agencies on the correct way to do the checks, in what order Comms want the info etc. Now I know I don't do it the correct way and do it sometimes backwards and even upside down I've emailed the PNC SPOC box but they've not got back to me as yet - they're busy little bees lately!…

Can anyone tell me if the eyesight requirement for armed police is any different to regular officers?? I have had a search for the answers but couldn't find any. I'm starting my specials training in Nov and already feel that I would like to use that to get into the regulars in 2 years. I've always loved the idea of traffic and as an armed officer, I wear contacts but wondered if eye sight requirements are more strict?? Kev

Hi, So I've just received an email from Essex Police explaining that there are no longer any online NCALT links that will need to be completed prior to the specials induction, however an IAM form will be sent out soon? What is an IAM form? Thanks

If you had the opportunity to go back in time and give yourself a piece of advice or wisdom regarding the job, what would you say? This question is mostly aimed at experienced Specials and Regulars, but anyone can join in.

Can anyone explain to me the difference in reading PACE through the legislation.gov.uk site and the Codes of Practice on gov.uk ? I'll keep it basic in my example... section 24 powers of arrest on the full legislation website http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1984/60/part/III it is quite clearly section 24 because it says that next to it. However from the Code G codes of practice site https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/117583/pace-code-g-2012.pdf it is under heading 2 (although the title of the heading states Section 24 PACE) What's the difference between the two documents? If you want to look something up should I be using…

Hello to you all. As I am all set to become a special constable for Nottinghamshire police I have been informed that Nottinghamshire Police doesn't plan on opening up regular recruitment for another 4-5 years time. So it got me wondering; are there any forces with plans to set up regular recruitment in the next 2-3 years? If anyone has any information regarding future police officer recruitment within this time frame for their own forces I, and many other specials/police staff across the country would be very interested to know. Whilst I would be more interested to know about future recruitment plans for East Midlands/ South Yorkshire forces, any recruitment knowledge of …

Hey there, the title says it all. I have a question regarding the Met Police vetting office. Basically, on my form that I had to fill out and send a few months ago, it has a contact number which states to call them if I have any questions in regards to filling in the form. My question is, is that the number I need to call if I want to find out the progress of my vetting? I have already passed my interview and have since then sent off my vetting form. I just want to give them a call to see if everything is fine and whatnot, but I don't know which number to phone them. Is it 020 7230 6666? That's the number I have on the form where it says to call if I need help filling …
