Hello members, I'm new to the forum. I'm a military medal collector, specialising in the Household Division (I'm ex Welsh Guards). I sometimes buy medals to men who have had police service. I recently bought a WW1 pair of medals to an Irish Guardsman who later served in either the Lancashire or West Riding Constabulary. I have a very clear photo of him showing the ribbons of the WW1 pair and also WW2 Defence Medal - for service in police during the war. The photo was taken in the late 1940s or early 1950s. Hi guys, not been on here for ages. I am now officially in the specials and undertaking duties (my 5th this Saturday). Hi, just looking for some advice that may come in useful in the future.... I am due to start my SC training in the new year, so at this point I am 100% still a regular MOP. However yesterday evening I was at a party for young disabled people from all over the town (I was supporting a young disabled individual to access the party), everyone is having a great time when something is happening outside. A group of local youths (about 6) gather outside and begin making offensive comments and jeering at the disabled individuals at the party. I wasn't sure if this was a job for here or Scenario City. I intend to raise it officially myself, but I am wondering what laws/powers/policies you're aware of before I start. Essentially, are you insured to drive anyone's car as part of your policing duties? I am not referring to the stereotypical way the USA cops are shown on TV to "badge out" and take someone's car to get into a hot pursuit. More a case of, you've pulled someone for drink driving and they have blown over the limit. Nobody else in the vehicle is insured to drive it, but the vehicle needs moving as it is stopped in a bad spot. Can you drive it for them? How about if the vehicle was crashed by said dri…

Hello, I'm currently in the final stages of becoming a Police Officer, I have just finished my last medical. I want to buy some books which could help me learn some laws before I actually start training as I know there is a lot to learn. Could anybody recommend any books for me to buy. I want something which can give the laws, points to prove and then do's and don'ts. For example. Stop and search, don't search somebody under PACE section 1 for drugs as this is a seperate power. After fighting against policing cuts for nearly four years, I am hugely relieved that the government has seen sense in suspending further cuts. However, I'm genuinely appalled that it took a terrorist atrocity in Paris combined with concerns for their political credibility to persuade the Government to do so, rather than genuine concerns about the safety and quality of life of the people I am not a politician, but I was born and bred in North Yorkshire and my heart and soul is in our County. I've done a fair bit of lengthy job hunting. I've been working in a gap fill job and have been looking at careers. My question is, from experiences, have the forces you volunteer for been happy to give a basic reference for a non police job? Is it something they are usually willing to do for specials?

Hello everybody my names Sam and im due to begin training as a special in January 2016! I am excited to begin my training but have concerns that my regular job may clash with some of the weekend training dates. I currently work 6am-2pm (perfect for evening classes) but the company I work for is due to begin 7 day rotors (2 weekends on 2 weekends off) and I am worried this will clash with the weekend training which I understand is 9-5 (yet to be 100% confirmed). What are my options if this is the case? Any and all advice will be highly appreciated.

It is my understanding that special constables, as full police officers, have the ability to use their police powers when off duty (provided a warrant card is shown, when possible). It is also my understanding that this should only ever be done in emergency situations. I am curious when and where special constables feel it appropriate to use their police powers, primarily because the summaries I have read are always vague.
