Being a young special and looking very young as well, it sometimes happens that i get comments like "how old are you?", "you must be like 12" and memorably the "didn't know the police took on work experience kids" aimed at me in a vindictive way by people i am dealing with (usually when arresting people). I usually let my job do the talking but I don't really know how to respond to these comments besides not saying anything. Does anybody else get/or had discriminating comments like that aimed at them (it doesn't have to be about age) and how have you dealt with them or responded to them? And if you have any advice in regards to how i should deal or respond to these com…

Hello I was due to have my induction on 6th February 2016 to become a Special Constable for Dorset Police. I received a very disappointing email yesterday to say that the February intake has been postponed for at least 6 months as they training needs to be reviewed and restructured. Gutted isn't the word! I was so looking forward to my induction and make a start on my training. I was ready to throw myself into it and I was very eager and excited. I understand why it's been postponed, but now I don't know what to do in the meantime. Is there anyone else on here in the same position? Does anyone have any suggestions for a short term venture until I can start my train…

Right, inspired to make this thread thanks to UK Cop Homour. I'll start us off (credit to UKCH) You know you're a Police Officer when... ... rather than pointing out scenic spots and tourist places to family and friends - you point out all the locations of the interesting 'incidents' you have dealt with.

I have come across, on YouTube, a (large) number of videos taken by people on their phones whilst having interactions with the Police. Many of the 'film makers' claim to know a lot about the law . Due to the high number of videos online I wondered if it was a common situation officers find themselves in? Also has anyone ever been filmed and had it posted online whilst on duty? Just curious about how likely it will be that I could become a film star once attested and on duty

Hi, does anyone know of any UK wide Police Charities? I know of COPS - but the way they advertise for volunteers makes it seem that they want serving Police Officers, Specials, and Police Staff. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

So haven't posted on here for a while. I've been very busy. For those who don't know I am a special constable at Kent Police. So it was just an update and to find out a general bit about your forces. At Kent, we get issued a PDP portfolio. This contains a PAC (police actions checklist) and a portfolio. The both look at job competencies which you have to provide evidence for to become independent. This includes things like eg. "issue a VDRS following force policy" - you would issue a VDRS and note in your PNB. That would then mean that competency is complete (unless you didn't feel confident and wanted to do it again). Others may be "use personal safety equipment follow…

When ever someone finds out I'm a special constable they always jump to the conclusion that I am a PCSO. I'm not saying it is a bad thing, it's just a point I have to explain every time. Does any one else experience this and why do people bundle the two roles together?

I was wondering, once I've got the position of special constable, if I pass training. What would happen if, say, we pulled over a driver for suspicion of drink driving - and it turned out to be a friend/acquaintance of mine?

Evening all, Whilst browsing YouTube for videos of specials and the like, I came across this! There is no doubt that this was written for a previous generation, however, I wondered, what do those serving who joined decades ago think of those who are joining up now. I can say for certain that some of the ideas expressed in this video, which is dated from the early 80's, are definitely just as prominent and important as ever!

Hello everyone I have my specials induction day tomorrow and wondered what I would need to take with me for this, since I can't find the email. Has anyone done this that could tell me? This would be for Essex police so might vary slightly to others, but it's better to have an idea than know nothing at all - thank you
