The thread name is a reference to what I've been told my a lot of PCs who describe the difference between being a Regular and a Special. This thread is directed towards those who started off as Specials then became PCs. Apart from the obvious, what are the differences for both roles? Has anybody any knowledge of this new book. It's being discussed on a 'Secret' Police FB site. Alleges no training in law and bangs on quite a bit about Specials. Just curious. Hello, I raise this query in regards to a number of questions in regards to becoming a special sergeant: -How long does it take to be considered for promotion to S/Sgt? -Does becoming a Special Sergeant 'significantly' reduce operational time as a result of paperwork? -What qualities would you look for in a Special Sergeant? -Is becoming a S/SGT worth the time and commitment if you want to join the regulars at some point? Hey guys, So I've read through a few threads on here, and from what I can see, though I am sure it is most certainly not the case for the most part, there seems to be a little bit of a mindset of "us and them" with certain forces when it comes to SCs and Regulars. This topic has come up a long time ago but I thought it is worth a visit since I get my Warrant Card in 2 weeks. I've had some varied answers to this question. When off duty, when do you carry your card? The best answer I have had is "I don't take it when I might make poor decisions like a night out on the town with some booze". Afternoon all, First of all, if this is in the wrong section, please let me know - I wasn't sure where to put it! I've finally got 5 days off work and having a little scout on YouTube, I've came across a video which if I remember rightly is the same person who ran a red light on a bicycle then challenged the officer who stopped him. After reading through the Topic on Specials and Tasers I thought it would be interesting to see how many of us actually want to be issued with a tasers. So vote away and please share your opinions if you have any whether negative or positive. My personal opinion is yes we should be allowed to be issued with tasers but I wouldn't personally carry one unless I really had to.

Not looking for opinions on the matter, as I am sure there are many, but does any one know of any Forces in the UK who have special constables trained in use of and issued with Taser?
