I am currently filling out the questions required for a regulars application and have a few queries about how to fill the questions. The examples of the questions is "Why do you want to join this force and why become a police officer?" "Give an example where you have shown leadership or team working" Would I be better to be using examples outside of the police force, or can I use my experience as a Special? I feel like I could answer all the questions due to my experience as a Special, however I am not sure if it looks good considering I am also a recent graduate Many thanks!

Hello, I have a high frequency hearing loss but with hearing aids I am perfectly fine. I do not struggle with conversations and I would not propose a risk to myself, colleagues or the public. But my question is, have you seen Police Officers with two hearing aids? Are they allowed? The Police are required to provide 'reasonable adjustments' so I do not see why they would not be allowed, it would be the same as joining with an eye sight issue which subjects you to glasses. Arguments I've heard; Radio and hearing aids will not fit- You can wear in the canal hearing aids along with the radio piece They may get knocked off when tac…

Hi all, So, after about 3 and a half years in the system, I received an email for April 2018 intake. As it has been a while since I passed my vetting etc, they mentioned I have to go through some Pre Employment Checks. My question is put to anybody who has been through this, just after the usual.... How long does it usually take, what is the difference between a pre employment check and vetting itself, etc? Thanks in advance

Good evening, 1st post on this forum. Ive currently got a few worries about the vetting process after reading some horror stories of people going through the whole stage of the application process only to have their dream cruelly taken away from then for something they don't even know about. I have just done the final interview for West Yorkshire police and was told I was successful. This is my dream job but now I'm bricking it about the vetting process. I declared nothing on my original application as I believed there was nothing to declare but now I'm concerened about a few things that may or may not crop up. Do the vetting checks go as far as cousins? …

Hi All I’m due to start Police Officer Training in March after a two year wait and couldn’t be more excited to begin. Can anyone tell me what the feel is at the moment in terms of job security and long term investment in Police Officers? I hope to be with the Police till I retire but with the current government cutbacks is this still a realistic goal? Can this still be a job for life? Regards

Hey folks, Applied for Police Scotland in April 2017, passed the assessment centre/final interview on 16th November and passed my medical in December. Waiting for my vetting and references to come though, and I also need to go for my final fitness and SMT. May be a long shot but is there anyone who was also at that assessment day and is waiting to be called in again? Or any of you that may be able to give an educated guess on how much longer I can expect to be waiting? I imagine the delay would be due in part to the Christmas holidays. Cheers for the help!

Almost at the finish line now, biometrics and uniform all done and out of the way with. With the month or so I have before starting are there any good books that I could benefit from reading or any other resources that may be helpful? Any tips or advice also would be greatly appreciated? Thanks in advance.

Good afternoon Ladies and Gents, Long time member first time poster here. I've recently applied and been success for all stages of recruitment at the first time of asking. There is one major worry I've got and that is the vetting, Mainly the financial part. I've got a default from a couple of years ago when I was in a debt management plan with stepchange. Despite paying all the payments on time the company neglected to advised that the amount I owed was on an account with 2 loans on and why one was being paid and more they put a default notice on the other part. The reason for the debt was a break down in …

Hi, I was wondering what courses are beneficial to have before applying to forces? I know CKP is not required although beneficial and I'm preparing for it now. I hold qualification equivalent to A levels (I'm not British). Thanks

Good afternoon, I was just wondering if anyone would be able to help me as I'm running mixed emotions with the initial application for a Police Constable with a Home Office police force. I understand that the application is assessed by the college of policing but here is my predicament and why I'm confused. Long story short, I applied to Cheshire Police in May 2016 with an overall Grade A. (Professionalism: A, Working with others: C, Decision Making: B, Service Delivery: B). The only reason I'm not currently serving as a police officer for them as in March the withdrew 30 applications from their process as they didn't "have any vacancies" so despite having …

Just wondering if anyone has been in the same boat as me....... I'm currently undergoing security vetting which as most will know, is a lengthy process and mine has been ongoing for around 7 weeks now. My force have start dates for Jan, March and May 2018, i'd ideally love to get a date for March but am mindful this is unlikely given the length of time vetting can take and because i have to give notice to my employer. What i'm concerned about however is if my vetting hasn't completed in time for me to start in May's intake is that likely to mean i'm out of the running completely? I realise the protocol for this will vary from force to force but I just wondered if an…

What would your personal view on the following be? https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/may_2016_recruitment Long story short, I along with 30 others had our applications withdrawn from the recruitment process in March as there were 'no vacancies' which obviously after completing the entire recruitment process is totally gutting as in my eyes, I was becoming a police officer whenever the vacancies arose. I have never read anywhere online or from any serving officers of a police force dropping Applicants as to my knowledge, they usually just keep them until a position become available. Anyway, to add insult to injury, Cheshire Police reopened…

Hi All, Firstly a huge thank you to all who are currently serving this Country, under any role that is currently within a police force, I truly admire what you represent. My joining this site is very recent, and a last port of call if I am completely honest. I have had to many knockbacks now over the years, but most recent is vetting. I am told as an external applicant that I have no right of appeal, & that section 6 of some type of act 1996 there is no reason to disclose the decision to myself. Added to this, I am informed that under no circumstances, in any capacity or post am I able to apply to this force again, I am stunned!. I have sought…

As per title. Did anyone do their assessment centre at College of Policing HQ on the 14th of November this year? If so have you had your results back yet. I was told by HR that if I phone towards the end of November they'll have my results. I was told on the day that I would have the results two weeks on the Friday (01/12/17). I'm still yet to have them. I phoned on the 01/12 and was told they haven't got them back yet but would soon. I sent a email on the 06/12 and got a reply on Monday saying they will chase the results up and they can confirm I will have the results by the end of the week. You can properly guess that as I'm making this thread that I've st…
