Hi everyone, This is my first post here after having a look around the forum, there is a lot of useful information! So, I sat my in-force interview on Sunday 9th October and was told that the results would be released within 5 days. My online assessment centre is actually booked to start today (the 13th), and I still have not had the results back. I am quite nervous, and have a couple of questions: -Do you think it is best to wait to see whether I passed the in-force interview before starting the assessment centre? Perhaps if I was unsuccessful, I would more about where I made mistakes etc. -Is it likely I have been unsuccessful based on the length of …

Training Being a police officer is both rewarding and challenging - you’ll sometimes need to operate outside of your comfort zone and handle difficult or complex situations. This means you’ll need to be able to think on your feet and work well with colleagues as part of an effective team. You’ll also need great people skills, remaining calm and patient with members of the public, particularly in stressful or volatile situations. Various Entry Routes Available Now not simply linked to being a dgree holder or wanting to obtain a degree or indeed go through the Apprenticeships scheme The training you'll r…

Well I'm 37, 38 next week I've spent the last 9 years working with children with complex needs and challenging behaviour, in residential settings, I have a few questions. I was seeing a CBT therapist last year and was told I likely have complex PTSD I'm currently taking sertraline and starting the process of trying to reduce this now. I now have asthma I caught covid 2020 and this brought my asthma back (I had childhood asthma as a child) I use an inhaler but I manage this ok. Will any of this affect my chances of joining? And is it worth joining potentially at 38 Kind regards

Q. Describe a time when you have taken ownership of a challenging problem. (taking ownership) SITUATION: It was late on a Friday afternoon at work when the company website went down. This situation had potentially disastrous consequences for the business because an online sale was due to commence at 9 am on Saturday, and the company depended heavily on the sales. TASK: Because I genuinely cared for the company, I agreed to stay behind late after work with my manager to try and resolve this challenging problem. The clock was ticking, and we needed to work fast. ACTION: My manager asked me to start calling a…

Hi all, I got my conditional offer in August 2021 and have been patiently (well I thought I was patient) awaiting an intake date. No vetting or medical done yet. I never realised how long this process would take. Anyone else in the same position? How long have you been waiting? Hoping to station at either Preston, Wigan or Manchester. 🙂 Nicole

Afternoon ladies and gents. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post - please feel free to move. So been a serving PC for 6 years now. Been lucky enough to obtain skills such as response driving, taser, level 2 and carrier driver. I am looking into the possibility of transferring to the Met. Some would gasp and ask “why?!??”, lol but I have seen many friends and colleagues move to London and they can’t speak highly of it - a lot of them say there is so many opportunities and routes to progress. In my current force, I have become a bit stuck in that there isn’t many jobs or lateral opportunities to progress into. Furthermore, when something opens up that takes m…

Getting an SIA licence before joining the police?
by Wikicop20 +- 1 follower

Is it good/worth getting an SIA licence, before joining the force as a full-time PC? There is a tonne of roles out there now, so much of it is security and whilst the jobs are not necessarily the best, there are some good security officer, control room CCTV operators etc. But almost need SIA. Am I right in saying you have to give up your SIA when you attest as a constable? Some companies pay you to do it, others don't. I could do with some more work and money now, but I don't want to start on a course and then have to give it all up shortly later when I join the force. Thanks.

PTSD and recruitment

Morning everyone, So I have a strange question for you and I'm struggling to find any data on it. Has anyone come across an Officer recruited with PTSD or had a prior diagnosis of of PTSD? To you give you the back story I had a rough patch while working as a Prison Officer and I asked for help. As I am a veteran I was referred to the veterans mental health team who quickly diagnosed me with PTSD. The Veterans Mental Health team believed my numerous tours had affected me, to which I disagreed as I was an RAF as a blanket stacker. Anyhow my military records arrived and it quickly became apparent my military background had nothing to do with my rough p…

Joining the police on antidepressants

I know what the home office guidelines say - but they are nearly 20 years out of date. Basically I've been on antidepressants (sertraline) since october 2020, and been on a stable dose of 150mg since February 2021. My depression is very much controlled and if it is of any relevance to Occupational Health it's primarily due to social isolation, low self esteem and grief (my grandad passed away last year). I'm excited by how quickly my application is progressing - bene invited to a virtual, mandatory briefing with Essex Police - but I'm worried I'll end up postponing future plans so I can continue with the recruitment process only to be told they want me off antidepressants…
