Hi, Im in the process of just starting my police vetting.... Have been in my current job 6 months, (just out of uni, have now started another job) Wasn't allowed to take time off for a police interview, I went anyway. However they have now found reasons to sack me. Im going to inform vetting... Have I totally blown my chances of joining police?

Hi all, I got my conditional offer in August 2021 and have been patiently (well I thought I was patient) awaiting an intake date. No vetting or medical done yet. I never realised how long this process would take. Anyone else in the same position? How long have you been waiting? Hoping to station at either Preston, Wigan or Manchester. 🙂 Nicole

Been lucky enough to obtain skills such as response driving, taser, level 2 and carrier driver. I am looking into the possibility of transferring to the Met. Some would gasp and ask “why?!??”, lol but I have seen many friends and colleagues move to London and they can’t speak highly of it - a lot of them say there is so many opportunities and routes to progress. So i was a former pc in 2020 did 7 months, had to leave which destroyed me as it took me so long to get in due to circumstances at home. I've tried to rejoin with several different forces since and i dont even get past the papersift! i dont understand and find it abit offensive as ive already been a pc. When i ask why im not eligible and why my application has been binned i get no response. Do you think ive been barred nationwide across all forces for some reason?

Is it good/worth getting an SIA licence, before joining the force as a full-time PC? There is a tonne of roles out there now, so much of it is security and whilst the jobs are not necessarily the best, there are some good security officer, control room CCTV operators etc. But almost need SIA. Am I right in saying you have to give up your SIA when you attest as a constable? Some companies pay you to do it, others don't. I could do with some more work and money now, but I don't want to start on a course and then have to give it all up shortly later when I join the force. Thanks.

Hi. I attended my medical and was deferred due to failing the colour blind test, is this common and has anyone been in this situation? Does this reduce my chances of becoming a Police officer?

Morning everyone, So I have a strange question for you and I'm struggling to find any data on it. Has anyone come across an Officer recruited with PTSD or had a prior diagnosis of of PTSD? To you give you the back story I had a rough patch while working as a Prison Officer and I asked for help. As I am a veteran I was referred to the veterans mental health team who quickly diagnosed me with PTSD. The Veterans Mental Health team believed my numerous tours had affected me, to which I disagreed as I was an RAF as a blanket stacker. I know what the home office guidelines say - but they are nearly 20 years out of date. Basically I've been on antidepressants (sertraline) since october 2020, and been on a stable dose of 150mg since February 2021. My depression is very much controlled and if it is of any relevance to Occupational Health it's primarily due to social isolation, low self esteem and grief (my grandad passed away last year). I'm excited by how quickly my application is progressing - bene invited to a virtual, mandatory briefing with Essex Police - but I'm worried I'll end up postponing future plans so I can continue with the recruitment process only to be told they want me off antidepressants…

Afternoon All, I have recently completed all recruitment sections for student officer role and was awaiting my start date. I have now completely torn my ACL which is less then ideal. The doctor has said because it is stable it is up to me whether I have it reconstructed or not. I will speak to occupational health but wondered if anyone had information on this: 1) will you pass a medical with a torn ACL if it is stable and can complete fitness test? 2) Will you pass a medical if have had a ACL reconstruction and recovered to full mobility. I am filling out my medical form and it asks Have you used ‘recreational’ drugs, misused prescription drugs or taken any other ‘controlled’ drugs? i have tried cannabis 3 times, most recently about 2 years ago. What is going to happen when I tick yes? Further questioning, rejection, nothing - just the drug test is what matters? I'm not asking so I can lie. If it's a no I'd rather just know so I can withdraw rather than worry about it for months. You're probably sick of reading vetting questions and I know there's not a lot of information which can be provided because nobody will have the answers or if they do, not be allowed to reveal them I'm sure. However that being said, hopefully someone will have enough knowledge to either go "you still have a chance" or "no way, stick with your current day job!" I work in a bank, although my credit isn't brilliant, it hasn't gotten me fired lol! I haven't got any defaults, CCJs etc and I pass the credit check internally which is of huge importance in the financial industry so see no issues for myself. The big issue would be family.
