As recruits, either rookie or potential ones – and even just general members of the public - we get so caught up in the excitement and possibilities of the job of a Police Officer we often overlook or don’t think about the bad sides of being in the job. I appreciate some of you won’t want to put negative thoughts on your profession or your experiences, or maybe people don’t always ask this question, but as someone who wants to get a wider picture of the job – what kinds of things do you consider a “bad” side? Endless paperwork, long hours, mental strain, physical abuse, work/life balance issues, relationship struggles, pay isn’t enough for what you do, funding cuts, …

I am about to submit my application for my local force and have seen that they ask for copies of my qualifications - presumably they means GCSE's and so on. I left education about 20 years ago! I have moved five times, got married and divorced since then! Is it an automatic fail or is this really intended for younger applicants who left school/college/uni relatively recently? Apologies if asked elsewhere, i am newish to this forum - i tried a search but couldnt see this actual question...

Hi all I was advised recently that I failed vetting for SC clearance, and I think this was due to an undischarged small debt I had not realised I had, that I promptly sorted out. However as is normal I wasn't told why or how I failed, but assumed it was because of this one debt. Their advice to me was 'prospect of success may improve within 5 years'. I have no criminal history or reprimands, no cautions, points or anything. Can anyone translate this at all? Is this a generic term for 'sort your debt out and you'll be fine to give it another shot within a 5 year frame? Or is it that I should not even bother for 5 years? Hi guys some of you may have seen some of my previous posts... vetting has become abit of an obsession recently due to failing vetting 10 months into a Merseyside application, and then twice with the MDP on both occasions no reason was given and I'm now on some sort of personal quest to get to the bottom of it, or atleast find my weakness area or otherwise so I can workout what options I have available to me. Anyway shortly after failing vetting for Merseyside I began my application to become a Prison Officer this process is similar in many respects to joining the Police, they both have similar assessment centres, fitness tests are the same, etc etc and just as it was…

Heard today that i passed my A/C and i'm looking at being in the 2nd of march intake, anyone else going?

Got my vetting but am thinking of delaying start date. Have been working freelance for a while which offers a certain amount of personal freedom. I've booked quite a few family events (long overseas trip) and personal targets (marathons etc) over the coming months and would like to do them before going full time again. My question is, if you delay your training do you have to redo your fitness test and vetting after a certain period? I think someone told me the initial day one assessment lasts for a couple of years but you might have to redo some of the others.

Hi guys I'm new to the forum and wanted to get some advice. I'm currently at university studying policing as my goal is to join the police force. 2 years ago I caught without driving with insurance (stupid I know and wish it never happened). I got 6 points on my licence and got a fine. It's a spent conviction so by the time I finish uni it will be off my record and I can't apply till then. I applied to become a special but got rejected on those grounds. So I was wondering even though after 5 years will it still hinder my application and always be a black mark against me? Would like to know what you guys think.

Anyone know if the Met's 18-week initial training is Monday to Friday or split over the full week? Got a couple of weekend things I'm considering booking for but will hold fire if the training is over seven days.

Hi There, Has anyone here passed or failed a medical with the Met for being on antidepressants within a 6month window of their Day 2? And how did the process go? did you get a chance to speak with their phychiatrist to be assessed? Im little concerned of a 24 month window being in play... Any experiences of this would be welcomed. Hi guys recently I failed vetting for the second time, on both occasions no reason was given however this time I have been given the option to appeal. Finances are fine, no criminal record, only live with my wife who also has a clean record and finances are fine, only issue we both may have is possibly certain family members but that's only speculation. I was wondering what would make a decent appeal case? I've got a few ideas but I want to see other people's opinions, what has worked for you or someone you know in the past etc etc. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hi, Can anyone offer any advice on the push/pull part of the fitness test? Im really worried about it because i'm pretty tall and slim, 6ft and about 11stone. The bleep test shouldn't be too much of a problem. im going to be going to the gym but my test is in about 4 weeks and i'm just wondering how hard it actually is? thanks,

Hi guys, I’ve failed vetting twice now firstly for Merseyside 2 weeks before my expected start date, and secondly with the MDP... both times no reason was given Merseyside did not give the option of an appeal however the MDP did, the appeal failed and again no reason was given however they suggested I never apply again for atleast 10 years!? Ive served within the Army and only left to join Merseyside Police, I have an indate SC vetting certificate, I’ve never committed a crime in my life, finances are great and I don’t even have points on my licence. if the reason is family then what can I do about it?
