I applied for the police earlier in year and unfortunately failed at AC. I was offered a position as a special which i plan on doing then reapplying when i can. I start training on Sunday does anyone know what the dress code is or what you should wear ? also is it strict on attending every session i know there is going to be at least 2 i cant make ?

Hi all, just a question about the lung function test on the medical for SC recruitment. I've gone through the whole process and had my medical the other day and passed each element except the lung function test. On a spirometer I measure 440ml when someone of my height and weight should measure 640ml (according to the print-out). I was referred to my GP (appointment with respiratory specialist tomorrow) but don't expect them to pick anything up as I have no symptoms of blockage/athsma. In short; does anyone know whether I must meet or just be close to 640ml. I should have asked the Occ Health nurse but I was so desperate to get out. in advance. James

After recently applying to a nearby Police Force as a Special Constable, I have been disappointed to learn that I am not eligible on the basis that I don't live within the Force area. I was totally unaware of such a requirement as have previously been told its not an issue, albeit from a different Force. Thrilled as I spent best part of 2 hours with the application form! Any-one else have any experience with this? Would be very grateful to hear.

I am having a very hard decision on which force to apply for currently. (As an officer). I originally intended to join the Met, but recently friends have explained that BTP mat be a better choice. However, my friends have informed me that despite the role being preferable in the nature of it's work, it is far less lucrative financially than it is over in the MEt (Whether this is in regards to pay/overtime/benefits i am unsure). Obviously pay is a hugely important factor to me, but the nature of the work i will be doing, along with promotion routes, is something i am far more interested in. Hi, I'm new to this site but I have been following for some time. I've been given an unconditional offer from university of Wolverhampton to study policing. I'm really interested in hearing from my fellow members who are currently doing this degree or have finished one. I have a few questions to ask and will keep it short and simple. 1. How does this degree help me in the future as a police officer. 2. Does the university of Wolverhampton still have an understanding with West Midlands Police and West Mercia Police. 3. What are the fitness requirements for West Midlands Police and West Mercia Police on eyesight and hearing.

I've been reading a few threads here over the past 24 hours, so I understand that my application is at the complete discretion of the force and there are no guarantees, etc. However, while I believe my caution doesn't fall into any of the barring categories, I just wanted some input on how seriously it's likely to be viewed (putting aside, a caution is an admission of an offence, etc).
