This is the current list of so-called 'restricted occupations' - in other words, if you do one of these jobs then you cannot be appointed as a Special: Members of Police Authorities Magistrates Clerks to Justice Clerks to Courts Members of employer's police forces Holders of liquor licences, managers of licenced houses and their husband or wife licencees of betting and gaming establishments and lottery promoters Bailiffs Members of private security organisations (whether directors, partners or employees) Private detectives and enquiry agents School crossing patrols and traffic wardens Members of Fire Services (but see below) Members of …

Hi there, I've recently passed all of the assessment stages and am working towards an August training date. I was wondering if there are any books I could order that would help me / increase my knowledge. I already have a CKP qual. Many thanks.

There is a lot of people on here that will disagree with what i have to say, and there will be a few that agree. The ones who won't will probably be the ones who haven't had to deal with it, I was refused security clearance a couple of years ago, and was not given an explanation as to why!! Which in it's self is wrong i feel. I have never been in trouble, seen the inside of a police cell or even seen what a FPN looks like, and i was refused, i jumped through all the hoops and was even told by the special sergeant interviewing me it was one of the best he had done in 15 years!!! Maybe i was refused because of someone else, maybe a family member which lives 105 miles awa…

Right, some background. I'm in the middle of a job interview and the boss says "Would you like to go out for a cigarette?" so we both do. As you do, after I've finished it I chuck it on the floor and step on it to put it out. THEN... Along comes what looks like Dog the Bounty Hunter, this big burly guy with a stab vest and a body worn camera... His official title being "Litter Enforcement Officer". He proceeds to tell me I'm being issued a £65 FPN for littering. This was an employee of the local council, not anything to do with the police. He asks for ID, but being 16 at the time... I have no ID on me. He then takes my address and gives me the fine. Worst. Job. Inter…

I'm getting confused at the requirements for unaided vision. I can see 6/36 binocular but I'm below 6/36 for each eyes individually. Does that mean a fail?

Hello all, Maybe a strange question but I will ask it anyway. I start training to be a regular Police Officer next week. I was wondering if I could also become a special with another force? I am going to be a regular officer with a neighbouring force and not the force where I live. I wondered if I could volunteer some of my time to help police where I live also. I'm sure this is not something that gets asked often. Matt

Hi I am applying to join the Met Police as a special. I am from London, my family live there. But i am going to university in Coventry. I have lived in 2 different addresses in the last 2 years in coventry. One was university halls and the other was a rented house. My question is do I list these addresses and secondly will this effect my application. I will live in Coventry but will travel to london when I perform my duty, is this ok. Thanks

Hi All, I have failed my interview for the Regs. I have applied to 3 different forces over the last 3 years and failed at different stages. I have been a Special for 4 years, and am 46 years old. Where do I go now ? Specials has always been a means to an end, and have decided to resign from the service. I think seeing people who have put in no where near as much commitment as me, and get through the process grates me. Is that just selfish or self pity ? It has been suggested to me that my age is an issue with my regs app. Should I move on ?
