Not a mid-life crisis thing, but does anyone on the forum motorcycle? If so how does one begin (CBT, etc, etc) and for a bike for commuting what would you suggest (as well as essential kit)? It would be mostly hilly rural with a bit of motorways thrown in (if that makes a difference to the type of bike etc). Weighing up options and was wondering about whether motorcycling was a solution to my family need for the car and my living in an area without public transport. Ta

I had a chat with an ex colleague today who is now a Div Ch Supt ...we were newly promoted skippers together ..... He is basically the same bloke that i knew , but lept into the " I really loved being a PC .... No responsibilty for anyone but yourself " ........ That got me thinking ........ i remember chatting with Superintendents and ranks senior to that, who always lay back in their leather chairs and starry eyed would say " tell you what sarge ....... Sergeant is the best rank in the job " ....... THAT never bought ANY credibility with me, as i think it's probably the toughest rank ......You are a buffer between the SMT and your troops , expected to do General Police…

Have you ever thought you would like a change but are tied to your pension? I can help you do what I did 2 years ago. (leave the met after 20 years service and move to alberta canada) Police here are activley targeting for recruitment, british police. You wont lose your pension rights and you will be paid according to service in uk ! You will be permanent residents of canada and dont need to worry about getting enough "points" to emigrate. The alberta government may even pay your relocation costs. There IS NO COST TO YOU AT ANY TIME. Just a great window of oppotunity that will soon close. Time frame is 6-9 months from now to moving. We have had no regrets…

GMP are going to stop all it's officers and CSO's from riding bicycles, they say that they are not competent to deal with the traffic in Manchester. A force spokesman said, ''we have to have concern for the safety of officers''. The police officers like the cycles because they can chase crims down alleys, where you cannot get a car. Sounds all abit PC to me and rather over the top. Apparently this all came about over the death of a CSO last week while riding a bike. Lets hope nobody gets killed by a car in Manchester or they may stop them driving cars as well.

I have posted this on behalf of Maverick22 (Are you frightened the wife might see it, Mav?). I do like it, though. Fifteen reasons why men have 2 dogs and not 2 wives: 1. The later you are, the more excited your dogs are to see you. 2. Dogs don't notice if you call them by another dog's name. 3. Dogs like it if you leave a lot of things on the floor. 4. A dog's parents never visit. 5. Dogs agree that you have to raise your voice to get your point across. 6. Dogs like to do their snooping outside rather than in your wallet or desk. 7. You never have to wait for a dog; they're ready to go 24 hours a day. 8. Dogs find you amusing when yo…

I have been asked to explain Tobies and Mermaids. Market inspectors, traditionally in London, are called Tobies from the Cockney rhyming slang Toby Jug - Mug. This is because the poorly paid market inspectors are policing the well off market traders - they are mugs for not getting a stall as well. Mermaids is the trade derogatory term for weights and measures inspectors (modern day trading standards officers), because they are with scales - geddit! I just want to know who was the TSO who attended the meeting of the Derbyshire regional road traffic group and agreed to call the combined police, wheel tappers, benefits agency, TS weight check - wait for i…

(I remember a fella on shift who had his locker opened and a dozen crime reports just fell on the ground..... I ended up picking up one or two of those stinkers).
