Welcome to Her Majesty's Open Prison - The United Kingdom, where you are spied on by an army of bureacratic fascists at your own expense, where your DNA can be taken from you without consent, where children are fingerprinted and entered on a national database, where you can be locked up without charge, never mind trial on the say-so of the Home Secretary, where Tesco knows more about you than your mother. Soon your "voluntary" ID card will be required for presentation on demand to 16 year-old CPSO's on every street corner. Your every phone call listed and retained for government use

I picked up this article on the news recently. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7063324.stm also reported HERE by the IHT France and Spain must know all about this, so what is going on? The initial story was that the children needed medical attention and/or were orphans. A BBC reporter said they seemed in good health. Some children were crying to be taken back home??

My parents used to use some words which they passed on to me and which I occasionally use but I very rarely hear used by others. While a couple of them I know are old gypsy words (my mum was a traveller), some are just a bit quaint. A few (non-gypsy) examples - does anyone know any of these? I'm sure they are really old! Ramfeezled - a word which means knackered, worn-out. Squackett - a rude or irritating sound someone makes, usually with their lips or tongue Skem/skemmer - a good-time girl, a tart Groff - a posh bloke, usually one who has a title Roogieface - a posh lady wearing a lot of make-up Brutus

This is Christoper Jones 21 years old and a much loved son of a work colleague of mine. He was brutally attacked on a night out in town, he died of his injuries just over a week later. Lets hope the police catch the scum that did this soon before they try it again. From what i understand the assailant left in a taxi, then came back and continued the attack that lead to the fatal injury. R.I.P. fella, and my heartfelt condolence to his family.

I recently showed this documentary that i saw a week or so ago on Channel 4 to some of my psychology students, I had to edit it somewhat as some of the images and language were IMO not suitable for the classroom. You can see a short clip of the program .What really shocked me, was not the violence perpetrated by these US soldiers, having taught Milgram and Zimbardo, and the psychological consequences of the horrendous things that man has perpetrated against his fellow man, nothing really shocks me now. No what really shook me was the seeming collusion with the American Justice system with present president to effectively legalise the torture that took place there. …

Are they really? I have to say I'd love my daughter to become a perma-tanned, false boobed, skinny, pretentious, attitude laden, sullen, conceited clothes horse with too much in the bank & too little to do. I'd want nothing more for her than that, it would be my life's achievement in fact Ok enough about Victoria Beckham, I shouldn't judge them all by one person but why are "Wags" inspirational because they passed their GCSE's? What about Doctors, Surgeons? Those that got good enough grades to go onto university & build good careers? Why is there no mention of those but these "wags" that have done so well in school should be held up as role models? Admittedly…

BBC News Article Anti file-sharing laws considered The UK government could legislate to crack down on illegal file-sharers, a senior official has told the BBC's interactive PM show and blog. Lord Triesman, the parliamentary Under Secretary for Innovation, Universities and Skills, said intellectual property theft would not be tolerated. "If we can't get voluntary arrangements we will legislate," he said. Am I missing something here? If it is already illegal, why do we need legislation?
