Ok, couldn't think of a relevant thread for this. Don't know if anyone else has heard, but was speaking to some friends at the yard earlier today & apparently there is a massive shortage of shavings for horse bedding etc. According to them it is to do with the Chinese buying up all the wood for the Beijing Olympics......I'm either being fed a line or it is true! I have noticed it i more difficult to get hold of bales & they are going up in price. Luckily I'm not affected because the horse stays out 24/7 from March/April onwards but some friends have Thoroughbreds/Thoroughbred crosses & theirs are stabled over night all year round. Pen, do you know/hav…

Hello all, My colleague Sgt Iain Reid 273 from Luton Police station will the taking part in the London Marathon this year to raise money as detailed below. If you would like to donate please PM me and I will send you details on how you can do this. Many thanks Dear all, On the 11th June I along with other members of Luton Police Station, turned out to a report of a stabbing in George Street Luton. PC Jon ‘Dave’ Henry never got to go home. 2007 was a tragic year for Mary and Maggie Henry, they lost their best friend, a loving husband and father. I want to try and make 2008 a little more bearable for them. On April 13th I will be …

According to The Times today, the Archbishop of Canterbury has suggested in a speech at the Royal Courts of Justice that parts of Sharia Law will inevitably become part of the UK justice system and has called for "plural jurisdiction" for Muslims. Apparently, even the Muslim Council of Great Britain think this is "off-the-wall". I guess it would be OK to introduce Sharia as long as Old Bill acquired the same powers as the Mutawa - the Saudi "religious police" - the right to exercise corporal punishment etc without worrying about putting the culprit before a court However, my real question is "Isn't it about time that Rowan Williams departed from his…

Hi all, A friend of mine is currently in the process of solo rowing across the Atlantic. He set off about 3 weeks ago and has covered 900 miles so far. He's writing a blog that actually makes quite good reading. In case you're interested the link is here: http://www.atlanticrow2007.com/ There is a facility to send him messages and apparently receiving these really helps his motivation. There is also the option to donate money should you choose to. It's in aid of Farm Africa and there are links to their site to explain what they do (pretty much what it says on the tin). TTFN Kenny

I'm an emergency planning officer and we've been issued airwave terminals as part of our resilient and inter-agency comms set up. As we are in civvies all the time, carying them is a real pain as we've gone for extened batteries making them a bit bulky. We've got belt docks for them but that's not always great as to ue is you keep having to take the terminal off. Any suggestions as to products that might be useful? Obvioulsy we don't want to look like we are pretending to be undercover coppers Cheers Dave

Men have landed on the moon, so long ago that it hardly rates a mention. Computers are so powerful today, that they make the computers in those space capsules look like pocket calculators. Technology can achieve just about anything. Heart transplants are almost routine. Why then can't I buy a decent electric bloody toaster!!! The one I have is pretty good, but on it's longest time setting, it still needs a bit more time, and it still doesn't do the toast evenly. My brother in law has spent over £100 on some fancy American toaster that is no better than mine at £14.95. I've heard of people who have a good one. I rush out any buy one from the same store…

I just wanted a topic where I could complain. Not that I expect anything. Just to complain. I'll start off: A: Because our transit system can't figure out how to distribute bus passes (like the ones you buy from newsagents and at the stations in London--not necessarily for the elderly) without massive fraud not being committed, the bus passes are going the way of being able to pay cash for parking at subway station parking lots--bye bye. Sheesh, we're a world capital not some midwest backwater. I ended up at benefits day telling the Metro lady to go to London or New York and see how it's done. The system that they are changing to is a debit card system…

Dear All Hope you don't mind me posting this message on here, site administrators I won't be offended if you view this as spam. I thought you might be interested to know I'm in the process of putting together a book of true stories, all written by active police officers. The book is going to be broken down into various categories including heroic / gruesome / funny stories etc. It is being compiled to provide a snapshot of modern policing - no comments from me, just 'what you see is what you get' sort of thing. It's still very early stages and I'm keen to get as many contributions as possible, so if you would like to see one of your stories in print please send it to …
