http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/edinburgh_and_east/7196711.stm Hope he gets six months next time. Or sectioned. This idiot managed to walk the length of England exposing himself to all and sundry but what arrests were made resulted in no action being taken by CPS. Fortunately, they took a very different view of him when he got north of the border!!! Why can't we have a Procurator Fiscal and a Sheriff? Brutus

Can I recommend a couple of books to you? They are both written by Charlie Owen, who is an ex-police officer. The two books are based on a fictional police station near Manchester, which for the purposes of these novels has the phonetic station code of Hotel Alpha. The title of the first book comes from the corruption of the station code used by the local officers. They know it as "Horse's Arse". The second book has just been released and goes by another phonetic code name which we in the job will have used on numerous occasions. Foxtrot Oscar. The books are set in the 1970s so there are parallels between them and Life on Mars, but whatever the comparison, I found the…

On Tuesday 15th January the House of Lords voted against on a ban on the creation of animal-human hybrids for research purposes. A proposed ban on embryo selection for 'saviour siblings' was also lost. Further issues, including the child's need for a father and abortion, are due to be debated and voted upon in the Lords on Monday 21 st January. Then the amended Bill will have its 3rd Reading before being sent to the Commons for further debate. Although it is a bit badly worded, this means that they are allowing the creation of animal-human hybrids (chimera) and allowing the creation of "saviour siblings". Any thoughts?

Spawn showed me this clip of a beauty queen. My thought is that this child is being treated like a Barbie doll, and not prepared for the real world. Poor kid. What do others think? Oh, and the poll is a little tongue in cheek. Don't ask me whose

Bill Marshall, 73 years, a retired Miner, told some yobs off for throwing bricks at ducks on the Chesterfield Canal, in Worksop. He made a complaint to the police regarding anti social behaviour. A short while later an officer turns up and arrests Bill, takes him to the police station where he is put in a cell for two hours. Apparently one yob stated that Bill had assaulted him. After being interviewed he was released without charge, and no action is being taken regarding the incident. The Chief Inspector said that the officer was 'young', and had not dealt with the incident in an appropriate manner. The force has apologised to Bill Marshall. We certainly don't do ours…

British Airways flight BA038 has crash landed short of the runway at Heathrow Airport. No fatalities or injuries reported - it appears that everyone got off down the emergency slides. Looks like a lot of people have had a very narrow escape. Not only those on the plane, but on the ground as well.

Policewomen are complaining about the 'Simon Cowell' trousers they are issued with. They say it makes their Bums look big. If you have a big bum it will look big whatever you are wearing. Whatever next, they will be wanting corsetts issued as standard uniform, for that 'five pound' thinner look.

Hi All, I've been coerced into doing the 2008 London Marathon so to that end, I'll be plodding around the streets of our capital on 13th April 2008. I'm running for BLESMA. If anyone fancies giving me (and more importantly the charity) a helping hand it would really be appreciated. http://www.justgiving.com/andrewgreenfieldlondonmarathon2008 Thanks, Andrew Greenfield Police Oracle Jobs Section Manager

Had occasion to squeeze into my tunic today. Being the highly decorated war hero that I am (OK that bit's not entirely true), I have been meaning to get a medal ribbon made up for years and never got around to it. Anyone know of any good places/websites?

Members of the House of Lords are complaining that they should get a pension and sick pay. An independent enquiry has said no, because they do the job for free and are not salaried. They are entitled to, wait for it, £308 a day expences, £79 for food, and £150 a day for travel. They are not required to produce receipts for any claim. Some members are known to sign in, stay for an hour, then go, and claim the £308. More people with their heads in the trough, and they want sick pay and a pension. Time to close the place down, everytime I see the H of Lords on TV, most of the old codgers appear to go there to sleep.

Until recently, I was involved in informal counselling for a charitable organisation. It wasn't proper counselling as such, but rather advice to sufferers of a medical condition I myself have had since birth. I found out today that one gentleman I visited a few times tried to take his own life by swallowing around 60 paracetamol tablets last night. He didn't go to the hospital until this morning and he's in there now. He is only 28 years of age and has slight learning difficulties as well as the condition and has, in the past, had problems with alcohol. I don't know what his chances are and I feel a bit guilty because I lost touch with him around the middle of last y…

There is a Childrens Hospice South West, at Charlton House Farm, nr Wraxall, North Somerset. If you look on the website you can read about the sick children that go their for respite care. Unfortunately they very rarely get to go back twice because they have terminal illnesses. If anyone is interested they have a weekly lottery on a Friday which pays out £1,000. The draw ticket costs £1. These places cost thousands to run and they get no support from HMG. Every little helps, including buying draw tickets. My previous Boss raised £58,000 towards the hospice by cycling around the force area and visiting every police establishment, 362 miles over four days, in Dec…

Just watched Michael Portillo's prog on the methodology of executions. Fascinating. For anyone who hasn't seen it, he was in search of a humane method of execution. What he came up with was hypoxia. Feed the subject nitrogen, he goes out feeling good, and quite quick too. Regardless of your opinion on capital punishment, it was a fascinating look into the subject. For the record, I'm against capital punishment, on the basis that while we have one of the better legal systems in the world, I would not bet my life upon it.
