It's really nice to see, in addition to the usual raft of political plum puddings ans top cat Honours, that a road sweeper has been made an MBE for doing an ordinary job extraordinarily well.

Hiya My wife and I are expecting our 1st child in May 2008. My wife works full time, Monday to Friday, but on a number of days she finishes about 1-2pm and can come home. She pretty much expects this to remain the case when she will return to work after 6 months Maternity Leave, though she has a small fear that the flexibility she currently has will be dimished when she does return. I work on Response, on a 5 week rotational VSP, 4 nights, 3 off, 3 lates, 2 off, 4 days, 2 off, 3 nights, 3 off, 4 lates, 2 off, 3 days, then back to the start. We neitther of us can afford to go part time, and will receive a pittance in "help" from the Government. It's financially going…

This news story broke in the Danish press today: http://politiken.dk/indland/article448563.ece It's about a bunch of Swedish female exhibitionists who insisted upon trying to force the authorities in Sweden to allow women to swim topless in all their pools. When the Swedish equality watchdog refused to back them last October, they decided to go and do a demo in a Danish swimming pool. The Danes allowed them to have a 30 minute session to make their point, and have said that they will consider having one session per week where these ghastly women can expose themselves like this. Hopefully, it would be a women only session so that no parents and kids had to put up with s…

What is the one song (if there is one) that has stuck in your mind through a bad time or that has helped you through it? Or, on the other side of the coin, that makes you really happy for some reason or another? Mine is Dido - See you when you're forty for the bad & for the good The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony.
