(Private Eye no.1219 19/09/08 - 02/10/08 edition page 3) The Eye's exposure of the unaffordability and big military risks of plans to privatise defence training in a £12bn PFI deal has angered the man running the project, Brigadier Geoff Nield. "I regret to return to you on the subject of the leakage of the DTR related material to the press," he writes in a memo. "You will be aware of most of the articles on package 1 [the main, PFI, element of training reform] which have appeared in Private Eye." What really riled Nield was our exposure of the cancellation of a planned announcement before parliament broke up. "The act of someone to release this latter infor…

I saw that a muslim colleague was praying one evening recently. As muslims are supposed to pray alone when they're not at home or in a mosque I didn't disturb him. He was facing the wrong direction. I didn't say anything to him. Should I have interrupted him & told him? Should I tell him the next time I see him?

Four times Italian women's champion Lara Liotta, 29, was on a street in broad daylight in central Rome when the man, a Romanian immigrant of no fixed abode, approached her and asked her for a cigarette. When she told him she did not smoke he allegedly lunged for her and grabbed her around the neck. Miss Liotta, who works as prison officer, immediately put her black belt training to good use, delivering two swift jabs to the man's face which sent him crashing to the ground. The karate champion was fortunate she could rely on her skills to fight off her attacker because there was no assistance from passersby, despite the attack happening shortly after rush hour on Mon…

Take a read of this. I actually caught this interview on the news this morning and the presenters seemed to nervous when he started slagging off the BBC. I agree with everything he says. I don't pay the licence fee in my house, but the money that is payed is wasted as none of us watch any of the BBC channels as they're full of complete rubbish. My parents didn't pay one year and we had several threatening letters and eventually a visit from some baliffs.

There is no excuse for what this woman did. I hope the CPS appeal the sentence. Maverick222008-09-17 10:10:22

I have quoted this from the Where did it all go wrong thread because I think it's moving away from that topic, yet makes a good discussion in it's own right. We were discussing the discrepancy betwen Paternal rights and Maternal rights, and Shootist put up this post to illustrate how unfair the system can be. Of course, I've been unable to resist answering it. But only to put another point of view across.
