Click UK may send troops to Congo Britain may need to send troops to the war-torn Democratic Republic of Congo if diplomatic efforts to find a solution to the crisis fail. Foreign Minister Lord Malloch-Brown said that the UK and other European powers could not stand back if the fighting between government and rebel forces erupted again. His comments came as Foreign Secretary David Miliband and his French counterpart Bernard Kouchner have embarked on the region to try to bring the warring parties together. Lord Malloch-Brown said that while the priority was to find a diplomatic solution, contingency plans were being drawn up for the deployment of an E…

Click SAS Major Quits Over Mine Deaths The SAS commander in Afghanistan has reportedly quit in disgust over the equipment available to British troops fighting the Taliban. Major Sebastian Morley resigned over four soldiers who died this year when their lightly armoured Snatch Land Rover hit a landmine in Helmand province, The Daily Telegraph has reported. Defence sources have insisted his departure was for "purely personal reasons". However, it is understood that he was unhappy at the continued use of the Snatch, despite its obvious vulnerability. According to the paper, he believes that Corporal Sarah Bryant - the first female soldier to die…

Brit accidentally becomes Spanish mayor A British expat who speaks only a few words of Spanish has become the "accidental mayor" of a town on the Costa Blanca. Mark Lewis, 58, has been left in charge in San Fulgencio after the mayor, deputy mayor and four senior councillors were all taken into police custody following corruption allegations. Mr Lewis was given the title as he is one of only two councillors from the ruling coalition not to be arrested, reports the Daily Telegraph. "Mr Lewis has taken charge of the council on the grounds that he is the fourth deputy mayor. Everyone above him in the pecking order has been arrested," said a town hall source. "Everything…

Xmas Scam come early - be careful out there!!! Just a warning. Over the last month I became a victim of a clever scam while out shopping at Tesco for Xmas gifts for the family. Ok I like to get the shopping done early. Simply going out to get gifts has turned out to be quite traumatic. Don’t be naive enough to think it couldn’t happen to you or your friends. Here’s how the scam works... Two very good looking 20-21 year old girls come over to your car as you are packing your shopping into the boot. They both start wiping your windscreen with a rag, with their breasts almost falling out of their skimpy t-shirts.. It is impossible not to look when you thank the…

It has been reported, in the 'Heil on Sunday' of course, that Gollum is being 'pressured' to bring Dave 'I cannot keep Ma Pants zipped Up' Blunkett back in the Cabinet.... (allegedly).... desparate times require desparate measure ....( allegedly). That old typing practice exercise .... 'In the Land of The Blind the One Eyed Man is King' may very well be true!! Gollum's Cabinet is becoming increasing more and more like Sesame Street. What with Scooter back in the Cabinet already. Soon Bungle and maybe back as well. All we need is Zippy.... or is she the H S? I'm still trying to work out whose Big Bird's secret identity will be.......

Does anyone know the town of Haroldswick in Scotland? My spouse's uncle owns a little crofter's cottage and some land just outside there and he has said we can have it if we want it, although we'd have to agree to keep it ourselves and not part with it to anyone outside the family (so we couldn't sell it). I have only been in Scotland once before, but that was to an entirely different spot. Apparently, Haroldswick lies about 200 miles north of John O'Groats, so it's quite a long way up. In fact, he says you get a great view of the aurora. It's only a spit from Muckle Flugga, which is the most northerly place in Scotland. We have arranged to go and spend a week there …
