Det Con Ashley Brice, 33, of Dyfed Powis Police was fined £2000 and banned from driving for a year at Crown Court. He overtook four vehicles at 80 mph, on a road restricted to 60mph, lost control on a bend and collided with a car coming in the opposite direction, killing the driver. The Judge was very scathing of Brice, accusing him of 'macho' driving, and aggressive driving. He told Brice if he had been found guilty of Death by Dangerous he would have sent him to prison. It looks as if the IPCC are looking to see if any disciplinary charges should be laid.

Item in the Western Morning Press(local news) titled, The Moment a PC Faced Death. A student was arrested on the Esplanade, Torquay, in possession of a Sumarai sword. He was BRIEFLY searched and conveyed to the Custody Unit. While being searched, the student pulled out a 6 '' knife and attempted to stab the opfficer in the neck. Thanks to his quick reactions, (you can see this on the video)and those of his fellow officers, the attack was prevented. The paper is trying to make out the PC is a hero. I would have thought the first thing he should have done was search the prisoner properly on arrest. It could not have been much of a search if the prisoner managed to conc…

One in five of us – an estimated five million workers – suffer from high levels of stress at some time of our working lives, according to the latest research from the Health and Safety Executive. Researchers for the HSE study, from BristolUniversity, examined responses from 8,000 people. They found clear links between high stress scores and adverse working conditions such as having too much to do and not being supported enough by managers. Workers who report being very stressed have a range of health and behaviour problems, from poor mental health and back pain to excessive drinking and smoking. Looking at past research, a Bristol team suggests tha…

China dollar attack would be 'foolhardy' : Bush 09/08/2007 President George W. Bush on Wednesday said China would be "foolhardy" to attempt to push down the dollar in retaliation for US pressure over Beijing's alleged currency manipulation. Bush said he had not seen the report that Beijing was hinting at such a move, in Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper, but warned against any attempt by China to hit back at Washington using vast foreign currency reserves. "That would be foolhardy of them to do that," Bush said in an interview with Fox News, adding he doubted the report was based on sources from the office of Chinese President Hu Jintao. "If that's t…

I have had two experiences today of the best of our youth. This morning I received a souvenir programme for an air cadet parade I couldn't go to last month. It is an ATC squadron in SE London with which I was associated 30 years ago. They have been presented with a poignard - a rare accolade from the RAF Benevolent Fund in recognition of the money the cadets have raised for the Fund. In browsing through the programme, I saw that these young men and women - mostly mid-teens represent almost all creeds and colours, they are smart and committed to their activities. It seems a cadet of just a few years ago is now a Captain in the Coldstream Guards awarded the Military …
