This Sky News report makes it sound as if Gordon Brown has been telling porkies to Barak Obama and they have been swallowed. In what will be seen as a triumphant question and answer session for the British Prime Minister, Mr Obama said the two men had a "terrific relationship" and enthused about their "shared set of values". He said: "We believe in the free market. We believe in a government that is not overbearing. Really?

In this BBC report there are concerns that we are now turning out a nation of narcissistic kids. To my mind there is a balance between self-esteem and over-inflated ego. We all like to have fond imaginings about ourselves and our capabilities, but sooner or later we have to discover that we are not as fit/clever/witty etc as we'd like to think But if we don't train kids to accept themselves within their own parameters, and worse, drop the standards so that nobody's self-esteem takes a knock, we are not giving them resilience. it's a sort of psychological cotton wool. But isn't this part of the Celeb culture, the instant success, and the don't-diss-my-fambl…

A Danish friend sent me a little brochure that he was sent from a holiday cottage firm in the south-west of England and in Wales. It seems that the firm concerned have tried to cut corners by using, I'm guessing, a free Internet translator, or maybe just a Danish/English dictionary, instead of paying for a proper translation service. As a result, they have made some howlers! Here are a few examples: 1. I skal afgå fra vores restaurant meget fuldt... They meant to say: You all shall leave our restaurant very satisfied... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1160704/The-Great-British-police-farce-Cardboard-coppers-join-war-crime.html Why the big fuss, there have been cardboard coppers around for years, Avon and Somerset had them years ago, they didn't last long, the intelligent people worked them out after 5 seconds, some Chavs thought they were real, and one old dear asked one where the post office was and thought him very rude not to answer. The only thing I worry about them is how long the arguement was about should he be white or of ethnic origin.
