http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1172303/Brown-orders-shake-MPs-expenses-Now-theyre-set-paid-20-000-year-just-turn-up.html Brown is so desperate to increase his popularity that he is trying to force this through so as to try and look good. If this does come about, i.e the daily allowance, MP's should have to do 6 hours work before they claim the allowance, or it will end up like th Lords where they sign in and out within ten minutes to get their daily £106 allowance. A common practice in the Lords is to sign in at 1245, collect your £54 food allowance, sign out at 1345, with your £106 attendance allowance, so £160 for doing virtually nothing.

This was posted by someone at work in a work blog and i felt as i should pass it on..... my son has just come back from Iraq...... but it is being supported by senior ranks Red Fridays - in support of our troups abroad. Some of you may have seen this on the Classifieds....please read it and let's show our support for the troups on Red Fridays. Last week I was in West London attending a conference. While I was in the airport, returning home, I heard several people behind me beginning to clap and cheer. I immediately turned around and witnessed one of the greatest acts of patriotism I have ever seen. Moving through the terminal was a group of soldiers in the…

Eight police officers serving with Scotland's largest force listed their official religion as Jedi in voluntary diversity forms, it has emerged. Strathclyde Police said the officers and two of its civilian staff claimed to follow the faith, which features in the Star Wars movies. The details were obtained in a Freedom of Information request by Jane's Police Review. Strathclyde was the only force in the UK to admit it had Jedi officers. In the Star Wars films, Jedi Knights such as Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda use the Force to battle the evil Darth Vader, who has strayed to the dark side. Jane's Police Review editor Chris Herbert, who requested the informati…

Just watching the news and Tesco's boss stated 'We're fortunate in that people have always needed food'. Really? You mean in this time of recession we haven't just given up on food in favour of dust and licking walls? So, any other nominees for stating the abundantly obvious?

My Dad keeps old copies of newspapers going back up to 70-years, and I was thumbing through them the other day. He showed me one copy of the Daily Herald, printed during World War 2 and the headline was that the councillors in the city of Liverpool sought an independent peace with Hitler for their city, but were prevented from pursuing it by threats from the War Cabinet. My Dad said that, while there is no reason to disbelieve the story, it was covered up almost immediately and expunged from the records, to save national embarrassment and damage to national morale. I have done a search on the Internet and can find no mention of this. Has anyone else here heard this st…

D'ya know what, i've already got some good advice from some questions i've posed on the forum and not yet introduced myself, how rude....I'm in the RAF, in my last 6 months and applied to my local force last October (08), and i'm going through that "checking my doorstep for good/bad news" stage. Can i put something out there whilst i think of it? Whilst waiting i've hooked up with my local PDU and am getting involved with community role play exercises for the recruits, it can only help, and i reckon anyone playing the waiting game should consider similar. It's surprising what useful stuff you pick up for AC day and interviews.....that is all! squipper2009-02-10 13…

Report in The Times today that the TA is to be greatly reduced. Now, I do have an interest in this being a reservist myself.....but! With the wide reports in the press of the army at overstretch, the function of the TA providing a "footprint" throughout the country (often TA units are the only ones at the Armistice Day services (probably 'cos everyone else is in the Sandpit or the 'Stan) and the function of the TA in providing people a chance to "try before they buy" Armed Services life; this has got to be a stupid cost cutting exercise that'll blow up in the Treasury's face.......hopefully not literally. We may be in withdrawal from Iraq, but that would…
