Not sure if this is the right place but I saw something which amused me. Some police forces have published lists of the gratuities given/accepted/refused by officers. This one made me laugh. "After appearing on the television programme Police Interceptors, and damaging his socks, an officer received a gift consisting of a pair of cartoon police officer socks" Pray tell, how do you 'damage your socks'? No mention of damaged trousers or shoes/boots, so what was he doing to damage his socks?!!

Not sure where it fits, so here seems best fit. Any suggestions on decent books to read written by ex-coppers? I've been given Wasting Police Time, and Who'd be a copper as well as a couple of others, but any specific suggestions that aren't manuals or texts books? I like to get other opinions that aren't my own, so they seems like a good place to start at least.

Moved into a flat, and found the washing machine is rather dirty, with specks of black mould? in the rubber ring and smells a bit like old water. Tried a rinse program to flush it out, and lots of flecks of "things" came out. Also when the washing machine was being drained, found lots of lime scale in the sink itself. Any advice to clean the washing machine out? It's a front loading Bosch washing machine.

Here's a conversation we've had before, more than once. So what time is dinner time? In my house we have : Breakfast - In the morning when you get up Lunch or Lunchtime - Middle of the day. A smaller meal to keep you going until the main meal of the day Dinner - Usually around 5pm to 6pm and the main meal of the day. Usually the largest amount of food in one sitting Supper - Later in the evening, usually a very light snack before retiring to bed Now I know some people say that dinner time is mid day but this is just wrong although that is my opinion. So what time is your dinner and how are your meals spread out and titled?

Hi everybody I just wondered if it was possible if anybody could shed some light on this. Recently I have been accepted into West Midlands Police as a regular after being an SC in Warwickshire prior. My partner and I are looking to buy our first house together and I have struggled to get a mortgage in principle because of being in the probationary period of work. As we all now, the probationary period in the Police is 2 years as opposed to your usual 3 months in other jobs. The various mortgage lenders have argued that due to being in the probationary period, they won't give us a mortgage based on both salaries, just my Girlfriends. I just wondered if anybod…
