Two of our lads passed their Standard Response Motorcycle course today, a first for us in Kent, and wondering if across the UK? I'm aware there have been SC Solo's who had previously been regulars. In any case, massive congrats to the guys who worked really hard!

So I'm in the kitchen cooking up a storm (made a mess) and reading PC. I'm think to my self I wonder what other members like to cook and if they have any special recipes they would like to share. Then I think to my self I wonder what they eat on shift. I wonder if any of them have succeeded in balancing shift work with eating healthy. So this is my question. Who if any has mastered the art of preparing and eating a balanced, healthy, affordable diet while working shifts. So North Yorkshire have appointed a Superintendent who has never served in any previous rank. This is DIRECT ENTRY. Direct Entry is needed when the force's Ch Insps are of such low calibre and lacking the requisite skills, that people "from outside" easily outshine them. What other explanation is there? The National Decision Model (NDM) can be applied to any situation, either with prior planning or used spontaneously. The NDM has 5 elements which surround the code of ethics. So after 3 months of training my first duty is tomorrow. I can't wait, although I'm a little apprehensive. However my wife is having kittens. She's been really supportive throughout the whole process but now the reality of me going out is filling her with dread. She said she'll lay awake until I get back, which will probably be the early hours of Sunday morning. How has your partner reacted to your first duty, ongoing duties and have they eventually relaxed?

Hello in my area we have a large amount of romani who run their gambling "cup'' games on the footpaths to entice people to gamble with them. Has anyone out there found any strategies which have proved successful in moving them on, or discouraged them from their games which seem to go endlessly.

Biographical type books such as 'The Jigsaw Man' by Paul Britton, or 'The Real Cracker: Investigating the Criminal Mind' by Stephen Cook which describes the experiences of Richard Badcock and Julian Boon? Or even more academic books such as 'Introducing Forensic and Criminal Investigation' by Jane Monckton-Smith, Tony Adams, Adam G Hart and Julia Webb? Hello. Just wondering if anyone had a quick reference guide/ flow chart or some such in relation to taking a child into police protection. As in what needs to done by who and the legislation that applies. I spent about 5 hours in a tedious fight with social services after ppo of a child and whilst I know the legislation etc a handy guide would be a bit easier to weald than the law as it's a bit dry. If not I will have to knock one together at work myself.

Evening, My first post and asking for a bit of advice! I have someone returning on bail over the weekend so just wanted to mentally prepare myself for what I need to do so I'm prepared on the day and ready to go. Basically I've taken on the case for a regular who will be on A/L, I'm pretty sure it will just be a charge (rather than second interview) so all I'm assuming I will need to do is: - Build the charges - Book back in to custody - Charge and off he goes Maybe it is this simple and I'm over thinking it? Evening all! I haven't posted in a while as I have been busy with training and my day job. Myself and the group of Specials I am with are due to undertake our final PST practical and written exam next weekend, then shortly after we will be doing our final exam before attestation. We are all wondering what we can expect from such exams (layout, things we can do to maximise passing etc) and would appreciate some feedback and advice from those who have already done it. We are all looking forward to getting out there and are amazed at how quickly we have moved through training! -Sam

In the past it used to be quite common (or so i personally thought) in regards to the use of informants / undercover staff to infiltrate crime syndicates. With the cuts and risk assessments, is this used on a basic level I.E: Constabulary's; Or is this reserved for more senior organisations within the police structure such as National Crime Agency (NCA) ? With drugs seemingly so easily available, do police have it on a forefront in terms of apprehending such activities, or are they focusing elsewhere ?

I'm sure everyone is delighted that there new or re elected PCCs are getting ready to start there term. I'm just wondering if PCCs can be specials? If so, is anyone aware of any that are? I personally think they'd get a brilliant insight into the front line and how phrases like 'no cuts to front line policing' doesn't equal 'front line policing numbers to stay the same' on response I booked on with 15 this time last year.
