General Policing Discussions

Hi, I'm currently working for the Cnc and at the moment I'm very happy with the way things are going. I would however like to improve my knowledge of laws and legislation. The law package covered on my training was very role specific so a lot of your general policing laws were not covered or were but briefly. In the past I have been a special and a pcso, Would the ckp be worth having under my belt or is it just not worthwhile? I'm just looking to improve my knowledge as a police officer and although I'm aware they'll be a lot of stuff I won't need in my role I still think that it can't hurt to have a bit of extra knowledge here and there. I've been successful through regular recruitment and have my initial training date set as January 2017 (a long way away I know!) but I'm keen for any advice/ tips/ help on: what do expect of the training course? Is it full on or pretty relaxed? Enjoyable or not so much? any little bits of kit that you aren't issued however are almost essential? any tips for once on I'm on the job? Get stuck in or hang back a little and try and watch/ leave from the more experienced officers? anything else people have to offer Thanks in advance for any help/ replies I get.

Pretty self-explanatory really, does your force provide you with opportunities to become involved with events or operations? Here in the land of TVP, I regularly get emails saying I've been invited to this that and the other. I feel as if I'm provided with ample chance to get involved with these kinds of things, but what's it like for you?

Sorry if this has been posted before (I have tried to search but couldn't see anything similar myself) and sorry that it isn't really Police related, but I was just wondering if anybody can explain what the rules on Door Men giving out their badge numbers/names are? Obviously if requested by Police they would, but what if just a general MOP requests this information, for example if they had a grievance with, or wanted to make a complaint about a member of Door Staff? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all

Hi I have been reading some old articles online from the 80s (one of them was about the 1981 Brixton riots), and some of them make reference to "home beat officers". I'm assuming that this was an earlier form of SNT officer, but more traditional. Were home beat officers just a MET thing? How did neighborhood policing operate around that time?

I recently received a letter from HMCTS stating I owe an amount for a fine that has gone unpaid. after many hours spent on the phone to the enforcement centre and the courts it turns out this is nothing to do with me. however, I have been told I will need to go to court and make a statutory defence. has anyone made one before and can anyone advise what I can expect to happen. thanks Sent from my iPhone using Police Community

In Staffs we don't seem to use any PDP packages for IP officers apart from a single 'night time economy' one. I was wondering what other forces do.... Does anyone know if any forces develop their own, if there are more available 'off the shelf' from Dutysheet themselves, or if anyone is developing any more advanced PDP packages for signed off officers? Thanks in advance for any comments / experiences.

It has been a long time since 2003, the year when the 1st episode of Rail Cops was aired on our screens. Admittedly I never watched it, mainly because in 2003 I was 6 years old and too busy picking my nose, and causing an unnecessary noise. Although, I came across the series on YouTube. Most episodes, in my opinion, were almost very similar and never offered the excitement and adrenaline to the extent of the likes we see in Police Interceptors, Traffic Cops, Road Wars etc... Although nevertheless I still present the question: Should the Rail Cops series be returned?
